Having racked up millions of YouTube views, played arenas with All Time Low and landed on the cover of several magazines, Against The Current<\/b> have all the makings of the next \u201cbig thing\u201d. As a small-to-medium sized music site, it\u2019s easy to be misled by the influence of the big guns. However with their debut album \u2018In Our Bones\u2019<\/i>, it\u2019s safe to say we won\u2019t be following suit of others, as it\u2019s a record that is so overtly pop, you\u2019re left questioning why Against The Current<\/b> have been firmly placed dead centre in the rock universe.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear that they know their market as \u2018In Our Bones\u2019<\/i> is brimming with summery, sickly produced pop-rock. From the opening \u201cooh ooh\u201d<\/i>s of \u2018Running With The Wild Things\u2019<\/i> to the atmospheric and intimate concluding \u2018Demons\u2019<\/i>, the three-piece go through a range of well-polished emotions. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Glossed over with \u201cmade for radio\u201d shine, songs such as \u2018Forget Me Now’<\/i> and the Little Mix-esque \u2018Runaway\u2019<\/i> emphasise ATC<\/b>\u2019s pop sensibilities. Elsewhere \u2018One More Weekend\u2019<\/i> carries itself with a bold, infectious hook with playful instrumentation, with the aforementioned ‘Running With The Wild Things\u2019<\/i> serving as an early highlight.<\/p>\n

Title track \u2018In Our Bones\u2019<\/i> softens proceedings with plucky guitars and Chrissy Constanza\u2019s effortless vocals. Whilst \u2018Brighter\u2019<\/i> is the album’s power ballad with its soothing strings, delicate piano and impassioned chorus.<\/p>\n

Admittedly vocalist Constanza does hold her own throughout, to a point where guitarist Daniel Gow and drummer Will Ferri are forgotten about, but maybe that\u2019s the aim. Nevertheless, Constanza has to be applauded for her confident voice proving to be sultry and innocent throughout.<\/p>\n

Without a doubt Against The Current<\/b> are a good pop band that border on the edge of the pop-rock spectrum. There\u2019s little sign of them breaking beyond their comfort zone; \u2018Blood Like Gasoline\u2019<\/i> hints at a more intense tone with an underlying punch and rushing tempo. Nevertheless, \u2018In Our Bones\u2019<\/i> is a snugly produced collection that the band’s growing fan base will eat up. However for the rest of us, what Against The Current<\/b> do offer quickly becomes nauseating. <\/p>\n
