But they hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, comeback album,\u00a0<i>\u2018Erase Me\u2019<\/i>, can never live up to the expectation thrust upon it. Their pop-heavy hardcore has been re-interpreted and appropriated by everyone from Bring Me the Horizon to Issues to Being as An Ocean and frankly, few bands have bettered <i>\u2018They\u2019re Only Chasing Safety\u2019<\/i> or <i>\u2018Define the Great Line\u2019<\/i>. But <strong>Underoath<\/strong> aren\u2019t interested in re-capturing past glories with this record.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"Underoath - Rapture (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kq1a_oMPswM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nTaking a U-turn from the slow-burning progressive material found on <i>\u2018Lost in the Sound of Separation\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018\u00d8 (Disambiguation)\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Erase Me\u2019<\/i> is <b>Underoath<\/b> at their most compact, stripped of any excess to provide the biggest hooks that a band with two vocalists, guitarists and a tonne of synth production can. Lead single <i>\u2018On My Teeth\u2019<\/i> demonstrates this via Gillespie\u2019s scattergun drum patterns layered on xenon-played synth backdrops in a pure adrenaline rush.<\/p>\n<p>Tracks like opener <i>\u2018It Has to Start Somewhere\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Sink With You\u2019<\/i> also pick up the pace for <b>Underoath<\/b>, but with a notably more accessible, streamlined approach to its songwriting than previous, to the point where the latter track could easily soundtrack scenes in a Marvel movie. Plus, the noir-pop keyboards in <i>\u2018Rature\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Erase Me\u2019<\/i> benefit from Chamberlain and guitarist Tim McTague\u2019s craft learnt from side-projects Sleepwave and Carrollhood.<\/p>\n<p>While the ambient brooding of purely electronic <i>\u2018No Frame\u2019<\/i> and cinematic closer <i>\u2018I Gave Up\u2019<\/i> prove the band still have some tricks up their sleeves\u2019, it\u2019s this supercharged hard rock territory where <b>Underoath<\/b> really thrive on <i>\u2018Erase Me\u2019<\/i>.
