Nevertheless, there is a whole host noteworthy albums and EP&#8217;s set to be released in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll admit when it came to picking out this month&#8217;s &#8220;must-hear&#8221; releases, we were overwhelmed. Now three years on, they&#8217;ve returned with its follow-up. Entitled<em> &#8216;Sister Cities&#8217;<\/em>, it sees the sextet evolve from heart-on-sleeve pop-punk leaders to a weathered and layered rock band.<\/p>\n<p>Threaded together with songs about hope and disconnectivity, Dan Campbell&#8217;s emotive outpouring brings a sense of familiarity to proceedings. It&#8217;s a statement that is supported by its title track; soaring with energy and an addictive hook for a chorus. Whereas<em> &#8216;Pyramids of Salt&#8217;<\/em> teases the more considered direction the album occasionally takes. This month the Danish group unleash <em>&#8216;Jord&#8217;<\/em>, their debut full-length. Combining scathing black metal with atmospheric shoegaze (or just &#8220;blackgaze&#8221;) <em>&#8216;Jord&#8217;<\/em> is a 42-minute thrill ride that is cathartic and heavy in equal measure.<\/p>\n<p>Leadoff single, <em>&#8216;Penumbra&#8217;<\/em>, captures what <strong>M\u00f8L<\/strong> are all about; venomous raging blasts before momentarily settling with distant, reverb guitars, only for one final wretched cloud to rear its bleak head at the end. While<em> &#8216;Bruma<\/em>&#8216; hints at<strong> M\u00f8L<\/strong>&#8216;s more textured side as relentless pounding drums, scaling guitars compliment Kim Song-Sternkopf&#8217;s deafening screams.<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/uHlZA5OYj2I<\/p>\n<p>Throughout, the use of light, ethereal instrumentation is brief yet is absolutely effective. It adds to the journey of soundscapes and emotions that <strong>M\u00f8L<\/strong> has produced. Don&#8217;t be surprised to hear a lot about <em>&#8216;Jord&#8217;<\/em> in the coming weeks. And in times like this, <b>War On Women<\/b>&#8216;s second full-length <i>\u2018Capture the Flag\u2019<\/i> is an energetic rallying call for anyone who feels unsafe being out in public just because of who they are. Lead single, <i>\u2018YDTMHTL\u2019<\/i> offers an empowering message defying any criticisms women are offered about their day-to-day appearance, offered through punchy punk riffs and slabs of frantic melody.<\/p>\n<p>With tracks like <i>\u2018Predator in Chief\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Dick Pics\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Capture the Flag\u2019<\/i> is <b>War on Women\u2019s<\/b> continued defiance against a society that would rather see them shut their mouths. Things may have gotten worse since 2015, but <b>War on Women<\/b> will have a much bigger crowd rallying behind them this time as well. In 2018, they return with their third album <i>\u2018Braille\u2019<\/i> now as figureheads of a scene where bands like Black Peaks and Employed to Serve can innovate and inspire scores of hardcore kids and metalheads.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"Palm Reader - Swarm\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0v_m0B8gHJk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i>\u2018Braille\u2019<\/i> is a more confident and expansive effort than we\u2019ve known from <b>Palm Reader<\/b> so far, as the band channel their energy from writing dense and technical hardcore to more atmospheric and fluid prog metal territory, as they channel their influences from Mastodon and Cult of Luna to create gripping musical passages built on delicate lead guitar melodies and more clean singing from frontman Josh McKeown, while tracks such as <i>\u2018Swarm\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Like a Wave\u2019<\/i> prove their angular HC roots are still intact here.<\/p>\n<p>This is a significant step-up from a band who were already light years ahead of those around them. Make sure you catch <b>Palm Reader<\/b> on tour with Rolo Tomassi and embrace this record with open arms. And with support spots for Descendents, Less Than Jake and Yellowcard under the belts, they\u2019ve won over some very reputable company in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Their latest EP <i>\u2018Ex\u2019<\/i> is a continuation of <i>\u2018Songs about shit love and mediocre love\u2019<\/i> as the band like to describe their output up to this point. With drummer Aicha taking up lead vocals for single <i>\u2018Favourite Ex\u2019<\/i>, the band switch things up from their regular band arrangement to stunning results. The song rushes out the speakers with a playful spirit and sugar sweet guitar melodies. With refrains of <i>\u2018You know who I wanna impress\/You know who I wanna undress?\u2019<\/i> in reference to the <i>\u2018favourite ex\u2019<\/i>, the band revel in the complications of past relationships with a massive grin on their faces throughout.<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/uoLAHYdQreU<\/p>\n<p>Some may consider <b>The Kenneths<\/b> style formulaic and juvenile, but then so were The Ramones and you\u2019re not going to tell us what they did was wrong. And on <i>\u2018Ex\u2019<\/i>, <b>The Kenneths<\/b> will generate steam heat from anyone who listens to it. In that space of time they\u2019ve also managed to tour throughout Europe, supported everyone from Arcane Roots to Fu Manchu, and also released an impressive back catalogue in the form of debut album <i>\u2018Atomised\u2019<\/i> and singles <i>\u2018Red\u2019<\/i> <i>\u2018Crosses\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Still Sick\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Hyena Kill -  Exit Mask (Official Video )\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wFobgVGMgcA?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On their new EP <i>\u2018Spun\u2019<\/i> Dobb and Blundell aim for a deeper emotional sensibility in their songwriting while improving on their musicianship as a two-piece. Lead single <i>\u2018Exist Mask\u2019<\/i> demonstrates their heightened ambition, filled with constant switches in pace and rhythm, which leaves listeners clinging on to Dobb\u2019s every last word in his cold tale of a lover\u2019s suicide, while the frantic scream-dominated <i>\u2018Panic Womb\u2019<\/i> is pure moshing fuel for the intimate sized venues they\u2019ve been playing up to now.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of Deftones will admire the massive sonic walls of delay-heavy riffs that dominate the sound of <i>\u2018Spun\u2019<\/i>, while the adventurous and unpredictable turns the EP takes makes <b>The Hyena Kill<\/b> an unmissable band for anyone who doesn\u2019t want their rock served straightforward. With a legacy that spawned from their destructive live shows and solidified itself through their ambitious opera of chaos on <i>\u2018Instructions\u2019<\/i>, they\u2019ve left a dent in the British heavy landscape that hasn\u2019t been levelled out since.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Haggard Cat - Bone Shaker (Official Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QVCzqcrjXh8?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With their new two-piece <b>Haggard Cat<\/b>, former Heck men Tom Marsh and Matt Reynolds aren\u2019t here to recreate the discombobulating hardcore of their former project. But the energy and volatility is still present across their debut full length <i>\u2018Challenger\u2019<\/i>, which lunges catchy riffs and groovy drum beats a la Death From Above 1979 at listeners with the force of clay pigeons coming out a trap. And whether it\u2019s these songs come in the form of light-brigade charge <i>\u2018Grave Digger\u2019<\/i> or the Southern-American groove of <i>\u2018The Legend\u2019<\/i>, there\u2019s a rawness to these tracks that swarms listeners like they\u2019re sat in the middle of the pair as they jam out.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, this makes <i>\u2018Challenger\u2019<\/i> a fun album to listen to and makes <b>Haggard Cat<\/b> sound like they\u2019re having the time of their lives as they play this music. Combining swagger with screwball guitars, Marsh and Reynolds are an unstoppable force once again. One band drawing on disparate influences to take indie-rock new and interesting places is Pittsburgh\u2019s <b>Swiss Army<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Newly signed to A-F \u2013 who\u2019ve already had a hand in Spanish Love Songs\u2019 killer <a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-spanish-love-songs-schmaltz\/\"><em>\u2018Schmaltz\u2019<\/em><\/a> this year \u2013 <b>Swiss Army<\/b> combine the riff-heavy pop nous of Rozwell Kid with the lyrical introspection of Into It Over It to great effect on <i>\u2018Paris Mountain\u2019<\/i>.
