{"id":58563,"date":"2018-04-05T11:00:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T10:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/?p=58563"},"modified":"2023-03-17T16:20:43","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T16:20:43","slug":"video-premiere-kermes-casting-the-creatures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/video-premiere-kermes-casting-the-creatures\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Premiere: Kermes &#8211; Casting the Creatures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On their forthcoming debut album, <em>\u2018We Choose Pretty Names\u2019<\/em>, self-described queer indie-punk band <strong>Kermes<\/strong> confront a plethora of issues such as depression, misogyny, and anti-capitalism.<\/p>\n<p>Their latest single, <em>&#8216;Casting The Creatures&#8217;<\/em>, sees the Leicester quartet approach the matter of transgender identity and how some parts of society mistreat queer and trans people.<em> &#8220;&#8216;Casting the Creatures&#8217; was my attempt at writing about the liberating power of queer sex but because my mental health was in an absolutely awful state at the time, it ended up being quite gloomy in the end,\u201d<\/em> explains vocalist Emily. <em>&#8220;The main idea of the song is about how, being a visibly queer person, society can often make you feel like a freak, and it\u2019s about reclaiming that almost <\/em>and<em> sort of revelling in it, despite the danger that you may be in because of it. So, it\u2019s essentially The Shape Of Water, but with guitars. (I haven\u2019t seen The Shape Of Water)\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the release of <em>&#8216;We Choose Pretty Names&#8217;<\/em> on 13th April via <strong>Robot Needs Home<\/strong>, we&#8217;re premiering the new video for <em>&#8216;Casting The Creatures&#8217;<\/em>. It sees <strong>Kermes<\/strong> maintain their DIY aesthetic as the video takes a low budget horror movie approach.
