He brings to the table a captivating twelve-track emotionally-fuelled record <i>\u2018Year One\u2019<\/i>. A very personal record, honesty runs deep throughout <i>\u2018Year One\u2019<\/i> as acoustic melodies and authentic lyricism permeate throughout.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u2018We\u2019<\/i> introduces the record to everything that the album will be. Cottingham\u2019s gentle voice is comforting which compels you to listen to each word. Paired perfectly with upbeat, pacey acoustic strums, <i>\u2018Lanterns\u2019<\/i> is very short but very sweet and one to replay. The range and perseverance of Cottingham\u2019s strong vocal abilities is displayed in <i>\u2018Like Paper\u2019<\/i> which comes complete with a main airy and intricate acoustic riff.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/6swYKWLv55cN66e36vhxqB\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A future crowd pleaser for sure, <i>\u2018Clearly More Ruined Than Rome\u2019<\/i> echoes memorable lyrics and comes with an addicting tempo. It\u2019s once again a very short song but packs what it needs to into the short minute in a half that it is played for. <i>\u2018Sleeping for the Week\u2019<\/i> is a different one. Reflective, sweeping and slow with poignant lyrics carry the song which at the latter end abruptly snaps into the up-tempo pace notable in the previous tracks. Carried by the subtle use of simple, upbeat percussion, <i>\u2018Incredible Pens\u2019<\/i> draws the fresh new record to a close and has left <b>Brightr<\/b> very welcome to return with new material.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u2018Year One\u2019<\/i> is an incredibly humble and raw record \u2013 something that you don\u2019t see very often \u2013 and is a perfect example of what good old gloomy emo-pop should be like. The intricate math-y acoustic guitar is the shining star along with Laurie\u2019s consistently emotion-filled vocals.
