They\u2019ve always been able to turn heads with their nostalgic take, yet on this sixth studio outing,<em> &#8216;Bad Frequencies&#8217;<\/em>, <strong>Hawthorne Heights<\/strong> have delivered a surprisingly upbeat record that feels somehow familiar but also renewed.<\/p>\n<p>Make no mistake, the band\u2019s emo roots live on as the album opens with <em>&#8216;In Gloom&#8217;<\/em>. The ruminating guitars and sedated lyrics from JT Woodruff have an enthralling effect as he reminisces on the band&#8217;s absent time away. As the song builds up to its crashing hooks and chorus, there\u2019s a sense of self-awareness with the lyric <em>\u201cWe\u2019re closer to death, we\u2019re getting older \/ I don\u2019t want to make it on my own\u201d<\/em>, calling back to their iconic tune <em>&#8216;Ohio Is for Lovers.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Hawthorne Heights &quot;Pink Hearts&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JcpVRpMJ0rQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Pink Hearts&#8217;<\/em> proves there\u2019s something for everyone on this album, with its upbeat, authentic, and summery punk vibes. Just as you think you get what <em>&#8216;Bad Frequencies&#8217;<\/em> is all about, we see songs such as <em>&#8216;Just Another Ghost&#8217;<\/em> filled with breakdowns that are nothing short of epic. While the title track exemplifies the fine line between <strong>Hawthorne Heights<\/strong>&#8216; more reversed side and the roaring guitars they\u2019re known for. When paired up with other album standouts, <em>&#8216;Starlighter (Echo, Utah)&#8217;<\/em> or <em>&#8216;Straight Down The Line&#8217;<\/em>, you realise <strong>HH<\/strong> are more than capable of producing that are on par with their older material.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Bad Frequencies&#8217;<\/em> is an album filled with inevitable callbacks to the band\u2019s glory days.
