It\u2019s a tried-and-tested formula that has propelled them to becoming America\u2019s most commercial metal export and made them a gateway band for younger fans seeking more aggressive music. No, this review of seventh album <i>\u2018And Justice For None\u2019<\/i> is a review that slates <b>Five Finger Death Punch<\/b> for coy attempts to rip off Bon Jovi.<\/p>\n<p>As the Las Vegas quintet\u2019s profile has risen their sound has made the gradual shift from groove laden metalcore to arena-ready hard rock, but on <i>\u2018And Justice For None\u2019<\/i> they let their identity get swallowed by overdoses of synthetic balladry. Tracks like twangy country rock offering <i>\u2018Blue on Black\u2019<\/i> tips it\u2019s straw hat to Mr. Jon Bon with all the sentimentality of a supermarket greetings card. Further along, <i>\u2018I Refuse\u2019<\/i> laments <em>&#8220;I\u2019m tired of living life like it\u2019s a dream&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>arranged into washy radio rock harmonies that could fit nicely on Nickelback\u2019s<em> \u2018All the Right Reasons.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Five Finger Death Punch - Sham Pain (Official Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HbaQ9xnoMGQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, even the more uptempo tracks on this album feel tired and lacklustre in their performance. Opening tracks <i>\u2018Fake\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Top of the World\u2019<\/i> are catchy doses of heaviness punctuated by Ivan Moody\u2019s signature screaming and singing trade-off, but they lack the vibrancy and urgency that made tracks on <i>\u2018War is the Answer\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018The Wrong Side of Heaven\u2026\u2019<\/i> double albums so remarkable.<\/p>\n<p>Topped off with layers of synthetic post-production on <i>\u2018When the Seasons Change\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Will the Sun Ever Rise\u2019<\/i> this album carries itself off with all the threat of an early 2000&#8217;s Dido album. More than any band struggling to keep hard rock an exciting genre, <i>\u2018And Justice For None\u2019<\/i> is a sonic departure by <b>Five Finger Death Punch<\/b> from which no one benefits. This record is a faceless slab of radio rock masquerading as artistic progression.
