{"id":6316,"date":"2016-02-08T15:50:57","date_gmt":"2016-02-08T15:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-ship-thieves-no-anchor\/"},"modified":"2018-03-21T22:16:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T22:16:08","slug":"album-review-ship-thieves-no-anchor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-ship-thieves-no-anchor\/","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: Ship Thieves &#8211; No Anchor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/be79ee53edc0e30ef55bd67a524c817c\/tumblr_inline_o2a816DacY1qztcot_540.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\u201cShip\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s something mightily reassuring about the foot-stomping, fist-in-the-air punk\u2019n\u2019roll of Gainseville\u2019s <b>Ship Thieves<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring the vocal duties of Chris Wollard (of Hot Water Music and The Draft fame), their latest effort <i>\u2018No Anchor\u2019<\/i> is an unpretentious and hard-hitting slice of Americana-tinged punk rock that is both sufficiently rabble-rousing as to be boisterous, but bruised enough to show heart and soul. <\/p>\n<p>The result is an album that makes you want to get on stage and lead a sing-along with your best mates, but, which when dissected slowly, presents hidden depths and an abundance of character. <!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>Songs such as <i>\u2018Middle Man\u2019<\/i> and the blistering title track crackle with pent-up energy, Wollard\u2019s whisky-soaked vocals pleading and urgent yet laced with the frustration of being unable to change the world alone. They\u2019re the sort of songs that make you want to bellow until you cough up a lung. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Wollard is a skilled conductor at this sort of stuff; alongside messrs Ragan, Black and Rebelo, he\u2019s made an entire career out of making punchy blue-collar rock songs that carry a weighty emotional punch, and <i> \u2018No Anchor\u2019<\/i> is no different.
