\"\"Remember last week, when Already Heard gave you 50 (that\u2019s right, 50!) bands<\/a> that you needed in your life in 2016? Prominent in that list were Kingston\u2019s emo\/pop-punk outfit Losing Sleep<\/b> and, as if to reinforce the point, \u2018Fear of Missing Out\u2019<\/i> is the star witness of our defence. <\/p>\n

And what a star it is too\u2026<\/p>\n

While January remains stoically miserable; an annual shitstorm of crappy weather, back to work despair and the sad realisation that the next thing to happen of any real note involves fucking pancakes (I hate pancakes), \u2018Fear Of Missing Out\u2019<\/i> is packed with so many killer hooks it\u2019ll soon blow away those winter blues. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re in any doubt, just listen to the opening salvo of \u2018One Year Of Winter\u2019<\/i> and \u2018People in Glass Houses Sink Ships\u2019<\/i>. I\u2019m well aware it\u2019s only January, but if 2016 heralds another start to an album packed with as much bounce and fun, I\u2019ll be genuinely astonished. It\u2019s a one-two that begs for massive sing-alongs at summer parties and will have you bouncing around the room almost instantly.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, the rest of \u2018Fear Of Missing Out\u2019<\/i> doesn\u2019t quite match this breath-taking opening, but the quality still remains extraordinarily high throughout. \u2018Never Told You\u2019<\/i> is another similarly infectious cut, as are the more progressive \u2018Give Her Hell From Us\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Tin Can Telephones\u2019<\/i>. It\u2019s to Losing Sleep<\/b>\u2019s credit that they don\u2019t rely on this magic formula too often \u2013 in fact too much of a good thing would almost certainly dilute the punchiness of such songs \u2013 but it means 50% of the songs on \u2018Fear Of Missing Out\u2019<\/i> have gold standard choruses. It\u2019s a spectacular hit rate.<\/p>\n

Yet when Losing Sleep<\/b> switch things up, they\u2019ve still got enough nous to deliver songs that are brilliantly engaging and compelling. \u2018Hesitate To Call\u2019<\/i> is a twitchy, slow-burning effort that holds its own against the whirlwind opening blast, while \u2018Meet Me In Agloe\u2019<\/i> shows Losing Sleep<\/b> can keep things interesting even when they drop the pace and play with the structure. Even when they throw in the obligatory ballad\/acoustic-style number (the closing \u2018I Wrote Off My Tape Deck\u2019<\/i>) \u2013 a seeming standard for bands of this ilk \u2013 they establish a new benchmark.<\/p>\n

It all means Losing Sleep<\/b> have catapulted themselves into the elite of the UK pop-punk\/emo scene, delivering the finest album of the genre since Moose Blood\u2019s \u2018I\u2019ll Keep You In Mind, From Time To Time\u2019<\/i>. If 2016 keeps this up, it should be a blast.<\/p>\n
