With their debut EP pencilled in for a spring 2018 release, we\u2019re premiering the video for their new single &#8211; <i>\u2018Smiling Shame\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The track sees the trio, guitarist Mykl Barton, bassist Danny Piston and drummer Drew Michael, combine to create an addictive slice of post-grunge that is carried with urgency and a stirring chorus. <i>\u201c&#8217;Smiling Shame\u2019 was one of the first songs written and came out pretty quick,\u201d<\/i> says the band. <i>\u201cIt\u2019s kind of about the frustration of letting something die but realising it\u2019s alright.Sometimes it\u2019s ok for something to fuck up, a kind of resolution.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>Its origins highlight <b>Sick Joy<\/b>\u2019s tendencies as they explain; <i>\u201cWe recorded it with a good friend Josh Harrison, sort of semi DIY, partly at home in the bathroom and partly at Brighton Electric.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The DIY aesthetic was carried over to the making of the video. <i>\u201cWe\u2019ve been a big fan of Ralph Fuller (video director) for a while and his style and approach to his own art,\u201d<\/i> <b>Sick Joy<\/b> explains. <i>\u201cIt was great to bash out a video in the same vein as we did with recording the song itself.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Sick Joy - Smiling Shame\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IBdAtUMD5eA?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Smiling Shame\u2019<\/i> by <b>Sick Joy<\/b> is out now on <b>SaySomething Records<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sick Joy<\/b> links: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sickjoyband\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sickjoyband\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sickjoyband\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Sick Joy<\/b> will be playing the following shows in the new year:<\/p>\n<p>January<br \/>\n16 Camden Assembly, London (headline)<br \/>\n19 Concorde 2, Brighton (supporting Tigercub)<br \/>\nMarch<br \/>\n23rd The Green Door Store, Brighton (headline EP launch show)<\/p>\n<p><i>Do you have a new video or release you\u2019d like to premier on <b>Already Heard<\/b>?
