New album <em>&#8216;Fixed Ideals&#8217;<\/em> takes what they did before and makes it even better, giving us thirteen intelligent, joyful tracks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Muncie Girls<\/strong> want us to know the importance to be found in the mundane. Opener <em>&#8216;Jeremy&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>mentions a hatred of Jeremy Clarkson but what it represents \u2013 <em>\u201cyou\u2019ll wonder why you gave into right-wing fears\u201d<\/em> <em>\u2013 <\/em>is far more serious. It might not immediately feel like the band are singing about the bigger picture, but it\u2019s the little things that make up our daily lives that mount, one by one, they\u2019re pointing out to us.<\/p>\n<p>Something as simple as waiting for a doctor\u2019s appointment turns life-changing on <em>&#8216;Clinic&#8217;<\/em>, an attack on the lack of mental health support available and the nonsensical advice found in its place. On <em>&#8216;Picture of Health&#8217;<\/em>, mental illness becomes a singalong refrain: <em>\u201cI was thinking maybe you could look after me \/ I could do the same for you just for a while \u2018til we\u2019re back on our feet\u201d<\/em>. <strong>Muncie Girls<\/strong> have plenty to say and they\u2019re not leaving anything out &#8211; don\u2019t be fooled by the buoyant melodies.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Muncie Girls - Picture of Health [OFFICIAL VIDEO]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u3SLZDgvaow?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There is some hope, however. <em>&#8216;In Between Bands&#8217;<\/em> reminds us of the simple pleasures in life, as Lande Hekt remembers listening to Sleater-Kinney in between bands playing, there\u2019s a camaraderie among the misery on<em> &#8216;Laugh Again&#8217;<\/em> and <em>&#8216;Bubble Bath&#8217;\u2019s <\/em>sound effects are bound to raise a smile.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the message, <strong>Muncie Girls<\/strong> sound lovely. Lande Hekt\u2019s soft, powdery vocals are heard most prominently on slower numbers <em>&#8216;Falling Down&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>and <em>&#8216;Hangovers&#8217;<\/em>,\u00a0sitting seamlessly alongside the other songs\u2019 surfy guitars and upbeat pop inclinations.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Fixed Ideals&#8217;<\/em> is a poetic, political album that\u2019ll force you to look inwards and outwards.
