It\u2019s a fun little tune which even has some 60s throwbacks to it by the final call and answer chorus. The title track starts off with a Smashing Pumpkins-style intro before breaking out into a pretty guitar lick running underneath the vocals. It also features some sweet harmonies and a snappy rhythm section.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Joyce Manor - &quot;Think I&#039;m Still In Love With You&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iMns-abKjWw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Both these songs are a good indicator of what to expect on the album &#8211; melodic and well constructed pop rock songs with catchy choruses and fuzz-laden guitars, as well as lyrics that tell stories of every day life and lost love. The combination of thought-provoking lyrics, and textured instrumentation was weaved into Thrice\u2019s brand of bold post-hardcore with impressive results.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"Thrice - &quot;The Grey&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ITe3Jh-cBhM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThis month sees the California quartet return with <em>&#8216;Palms&#8217;<\/em>. Described as their \u201cmost sonically expansive\u201d work to date, we\u2019re under the impression that <strong>Thrice<\/strong> will serve up another intriguing set of songs. One thing we do know is that chief songwriter Dustin Kensrue is his usual introspective self. For example, <em>&#8216;The Grey&#8217;<\/em> sees him explore the idea that everything isn\u2019t so black and white in front of a stirring musical backdrop with stiff, twisting riffs. Whereas <em>&#8216;Only Us&#8217;<\/em> contains a brooding synth taken right out of &#8216;Stranger Things&#8217;, complimenting the intense lyricism as Kensrue contemplations the flexible divides of \u201cus\u201d and \u201cthem\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Both are merely appetisers for what we think is sure to be a worthy addition to Thrice\u2019s discography. The album sees the band once again work with long time collaborator Sam Pura (Hundredth, Basement), who has guided them through what appears to be a slight reinvention.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Story So Far &quot;Take Me As You Please&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R72KzrZ6BEY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The slick pop-punk of their first two albums seems like a distant memory, and their last release stands as more of a transitional work in the light of\u00a0<em>&#8216;Proper Dose&#8217;<\/em>. While the first single <em>&#8216;Out of It&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>retains a similar sound,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Let It Go&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Upside Down&#8217;<\/em> take a much more alt-rock approach, with hints of the psychedelic.\u00a0<em>&#8216;Take Me As You Please&#8217;<\/em> is an acoustic ballad, a rare occurrence for the band who arguably have only recorded two such songs in the past, but it could be the strongest of all the singles so far.<\/p>\n<p>Each track is different, and the actual direction seems unclear at this stage, but it is hard to deny that this is\u00a0<strong>The Story So Far&#8217;s<\/strong> best work to date. Formed back in 2015, they\u2019re about to make a huge impression with debut album <em>\u2018Undercover Scumbag\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Released last year, their EP \u2018<em>Karma<\/em>\u2019 was a concussion grenade of heavy metalcore, a sound that replaces much of the metalcore chug with pauses and feedback, coupled with throat-shredding vocals. In a similar sonic vein to Code Orange and Converge, <b>156\/Silence<\/b> are lyrically\u00a0open too.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"156\/Silence &quot;Undercover Scumbag&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zJ_hRf9Yi5Y?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The lead single <em>\u2018Undercover Scumbag\u2019<\/em> doesn\u2019t just share the album\u2019s great name, it\u2019s a violent slice of music deployed in a way that keeps things interesting for nearly four desperate minutes. Yes, it\u2019s the sound of being beaten to death, but its pulled off with style, promising much for the album\u2019s eight tracks. If that\u2019s your thing, these guys really know what they\u2019re doing. Marrying Hollywood celebrities and leaving their early-noughties pop-punk behind for a far more mainstream, All Time Low brand of arena rock, left them wide open to music snobs\u2019 criticism.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Good Charlotte - Shadowboxer [Official Video]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eJZ9cHzzxOA?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Generation Rx&#8217;<\/em>, their seventh album, looks set to prove there is a darkness behind the glamour. They\u2019ve not lost touch with their roots \u2013 the difficult upbringing they sang about more than a decade ago \u2013 and have already set out to remind everyone of that with singles\u00a0<em>&#8216;Shadowboxer&#8217;<\/em> and<em> &#8216;Actual Pain&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, it\u2019s radio friendly, but it&#8217;s music with a message that anyone and everyone can get on board with. Surely that\u2019s the only thing that matters. It\u2019s mellower melodic flow demonstrated the band\u2019s mature progression as songwriters, but also lacked the intensity that made <i>\u2019These Four Walls\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018In the Pit of the Stomach\u2019<\/i> the most exciting records to come from Scotland\u2019s indie scene.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Repeating Patterns [OFFICIAL VIDEO]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/277VfNI1Dbg?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With four years to work on fourth record <i>\u2018The More I Sleep, The Less I Dream\u2019<\/i>, <b>WWPJ<\/b> have found a way to reinvigorate the pulse of their first two albums without resorting to the simplicity of <i>\u2018Quiet Little Voices\u2019<\/i> again. Dripping with tension, lead single <i>\u2018Hanging In\u2019<\/i> is a velvet-textured composition which builds and builds into an explosion of shimmering lead guitar as frontman Adam Thompson begs his loved ones not to push him under the bus as he dwells in personal anguish.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the raucous <i>\u2018Repeating Patterns\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018The More I Sleep, The Less I Dream\u2019<\/i> is set to be a welcome return from <b>We Were Promised Jetpacks<\/b>. Returning to the frantic lead guitar driven indie rock of their first two albums mixed with a cinematic production, this is <b>WWPJ<\/b> at their boldest and most dynamic. It\u2019s the step-up we\u2019ve longed for. Containing three songs off the last two records which they felt deserved to \u201csee the light of day\u201d. The title itself is a nod to the band\u2019s love of private room karaoke, and ahead of the release, they\u2019ve put out single <i>\u2018Monument\u2019<\/i>. Fast and heavy with some breakneck snare work, it\u2019s short and to the point at only one minute fifty seconds, but grabs you right by the throat and doesn\u2019t let go, the screamed vocals aggressive and passionate as they drive us through the breaks and dark, off-kilter guitars.\u00a0Whereas<em> \u2018Selfishly I Sink\u2019<\/em> is two minutes of relentless pounding drums and screaming with a dramatic break at the halfway point.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Counterparts &quot;Monument&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/heacnHcCTes?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s another great start for a band who always seem to put out fairly consistently awesome material \u2013 considering these are B-sides, they\u2019re as good as a lot of bands\u2019 A-sides. With lyrical themes surrounding drug addiction and loss of control, singles\u00a0<em>&#8216;Halo&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Bad Machine&#8217;<\/em> make for some great examples of natural progression for a band that have been travelling at full speed.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the releases that\u00a0<strong>Pure Noise<\/strong> have coming out this year,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Welcome to the Neighbourhood&#8217;<\/em> might just be the most exciting. Having transitioned from acoustic soloist to full-band indie\/emo on 2016\u2019s <em>&#8216;Nautical Miles&#8217;<\/em>, Ryan\u2019s songwriting continues to grow on its follow up, &#8216;<i>Everybody\u2019s Welcome&#8217;<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>With its somewhat tongue-in-cheek title, Marty\u2019s second full-length is a personal and honest account of facing up to the pressures and conformity society brings. \u201cIt\u2019s about that false belief that I was kind of clutching onto led to the darkest part of my life,\u201d Marty said in the lead up to its release.<br \/>\n<iframe title=\"Anna&#039;s Anchor &quot;White Washed Corridor&quot; [Official Music Video]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gEfwKF2ZKzk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nWithout a doubt, <em>&#8216;Everybody\u2019s Welcome&#8217;<\/em> documents Ryan\u2019s struggles with detailed honesty. Take <em>&#8216;White Washed Corridor\u2019<\/em> for example. Complimented by an addictive, harmonious hook, it sees him explore the effects of his mother\u2019s alcoholism. It\u2019s just one of many sensitive topics explored with <em>&#8216;Precautionary&#8217;<\/em> questioning our irresponsibility of looking after the environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna\u2019s Anchor<\/strong> is a hidden gem that deserves to be cherished. Dreamy, echo-soaked guitars open up the track before the rich, warm vocals of lead singer Katie McConnell kick in. It\u2019s a song that starts quiet and slow, but breaks out into a faster, heavier chorus, dropping in and out again continually throughout. With excellent production quality and some top notch mixing, it\u2019s a well written and constructed track backed up by musicians who know their chops.<\/p>\n<p>It offers some high hopes for the rest of the album; if every song is along these lines then <strong>Hypophora<\/strong> are for sure a band to watch out for the in the future. The nostalgia driven &#8216;<em>I Am an Island&#8217;<\/em> and <em>&#8216;Open Book&#8217;<\/em> were crammed full of anthems built for venues far grander than the ones the band played in, and if recent release <em>&#8216;Making Waves&#8217;<\/em> is anything to go by, we\u2019re in for more of the same.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Fatherson - &#039;Making Waves&#039; (Official Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ai2qa5qQk78?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Lead singer Ross Leighton has one of the most distinctive, powerful voices in the alternative music community and it\u2019s this that means <strong>Fatherson<\/strong> have no choice but to stand out from the crowd. Combine that with the boisterous drums and marching guitars of <em>&#8216;Charm School&#8217;<\/em> and you\u2019ve got a band to sit alongside the likes of Twin Atlantic and The Xcerts.<\/p>\n<p>They certainly deserve more attention \u2013 maybe album number three is the chance to grab it. Packed head to toe with bangers, it was a speed-laden cocktail of punk, hardcore and flame-grilled Southern rock that left listeners grinning ear-to-ear (which, speaking from personal experience, will gain you some odd looks when you listen to it in a public place).<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Dirty Nil - Bathed In Light\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IoazBvayjyQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After a year of touring with the likes of Alexisonfire, Against Me! And The Menzingers, the Hamilton, Ontario three-piece come bouncing back for second full-length <i>\u2018Master Volume\u2019<\/i>. Boasting a crudely drawn skeleton face on its cover, singles <i>\u2019Bathed In Light\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Pain of Infinity\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018I Don\u2019t Want That Phone Call\u2019<\/i> feel battered around the edges, promising a rawer, more fragile set of songs. Luke Bentham\u2019s confrontational snarl of <em>&#8220;<\/em><i>darling lose the fuckin\u2019 attitude&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0and <i>&#8220;I never liked you and I hate your friends&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0on <i>\u2018Pain\u2026\u2019<\/i> gives us a glimpse into the unsettled mood taking place across this record.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of PUP\u2019s springy update on classic proto-punk will get a kick out of <i>\u2018Master Volume\u2019<\/i>, while established <b>Dirty Nil<\/b> fans should gear themselves up for an angrier set of rock and roll songs. But we have no doubt you\u2019ll leave this album with a smile on your face.
