Setting the last four tracks aside, <i>\u2018Soul Sphere\u2019<\/i> is a commanding demonstration of their talents, an assertive fourth addition to a back catalogue that\u2019s shown the deathcore scene that it takes courage and unadulterated determination to make a name worthy of supporting the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Hatebreed.<\/p>\n<p>Almost immediately crushing skulls with opener <i>\u2018The Other Half of Me\u2019<\/i>, their relentless authority asserts itself from the onset amid towering electric solos and quasi-symphonic infusions. <i>\u201cJust let my lungs fill with smoke, leave only my skin, a match and a stone,\u201d<\/i> snaps Ronnie Canizaro throughout the utterly contagious <i>\u2018Throw Me in the Jungle\u2019<\/i>, before showcasing the tireless drumming expertise of Cameron Losch with the venomous <i>\u2018Free Fall\u2019<\/i>.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a remarkable hint of <i>\u2018Sempiternal\u2019<\/i>-era BMTH surfacing through the heartfelt atmos of <i>\u2018Illuminate\u2019<\/i>, preluding the contagious rhythm and melodic sway of <i>\u2018The Sleeping and the Dead\u2019<\/i>. A heart-wrenching electric solo through <i>\u2018Tidebinder\u2019<\/i> prepares suitably for the unbridled rage of <i>\u2018Resilience\u2019<\/i> spitting, <i>\u201cDeath is not an option, the story is not over, it\u2019s unlikely we will die.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The punishing <i>\u2018Goddess of the Dawn\u2019<\/i> makes its presence keenly felt with their trademark tricksy fretwork. However, this spectacular track is followed by <i>\u2018The Louder the Sound, the More We All Believe\u2019<\/i> and the succeeding three tracks which close the record with painfully optimistic techy interludes. Having kept their glittering djent interests to the side for the most part, this curtain call somewhat offsets the phenomenal solo of <i>\u2018Warlords\u2019<\/i> and the maniacal wails of closing <i>\u2018The Composer\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Born of Osiris<\/b> certainly deliver when it comes to riffs that leave you breathless, and <i>\u2018Soul Sphere\u2019<\/i> is no different &ndash; dominant and insistent, adding a truck-load of atmosphere to boot.
