Obviously punk and politics have gone hand in hand virtually since the genre\u2019s inception, but where so many have fallen away from the cause, <b>Anti-Flag<\/b> have forged ahead and kept their vision of standing against injustice clear.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it\u2019s nice to see that even acrimonious, politically-scrutinous punks can still get a kick out of capitalism because there\u2019s really no other reason for <i>\u2018American Reckoning\u2019<\/i> to exist other than that. Essentially, this is a collection of acoustic renditions of tracks from their last few albums with some covers tacked on for good measure, possibly the most inessential thing <b>Anti-Flag<\/b> could\u2019ve released, and it feels it too. After all, the whole point of tracks like <i>\u2019American Attraction\u2019<\/i> or <i>\u2019Racists\u2019<\/i> is hit with punch and venom, something which frail acoustic versions simply can\u2019t do.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Anti-Flag - For What It&#039;s Worth\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W9y6Vw5mavQ?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>At least the covers are marginally better, but again, it feels like <b>Anti-Flag<\/b> running on autopilot more than anything. Even though they\u2019re not necessarily bad, a note-for-note transposing of Buffalo Springfield\u2019s <i>\u2019For What It\u2019s Worth\u2019<\/i> or a strangely rickety cover of John Lennon\u2019s <i>\u2019Gimmie Some Truth\u2019<\/i> aren\u2019t prime material by any means. If anything, they feel among the most obvious picks a band like this could have\u00a0made, standing as something to bulk this package out and nothing else.<\/p>\n<p>It honestly winds up as a release that has no real selling point besides the opportunity for diehards to here new songs in a different way.
