In celebration of this modern day pirate image, OC\u2019s punk mainstays are about to weigh anchor on their twelfth album, but this ship is far too energetic and contagious to sink.<\/p>\n<p>From its jangly opening to its lightning speed vocals, party-starting opener <i>\u2018Who Brings a Knife To a Gun Fight?\u2019<\/i> revives the adolescent charm of <b>Zebrahead<\/b>\u2019s chaotic talent, blissfully repetitive but catchy as sin. Its antithetic successor <i>\u2018Worse Than This\u2019<\/i> presents the timeless pop punk optimism of intricate fretwork to blows with its apathetic tone &#8211; <i>\u201cI know things will get better cos it just can\u2019t get any worse than this.\u201d<\/i><!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The sassy anthemic drawl of <i>\u2018Freak Show\u2019<\/i> epitomises the band\u2019s exuberance that has remained pivotal to their reputation ever since 2000\u2019s infamous <i>\u2018Playmate of the Year\u2019<\/i>. Equally contagious and confident, <i>\u2018Headrush\u2019<\/i> makes a sly appeal to contemporaries Sum 41, while <i>\u2018Running With Wolves\u2019<\/i> projects a similar boundless energy to demonstrate just how <b>Zebrahead<\/b> have come so far but never forget their roots.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI\u2019m sick and tired of everyone and everything I know,\u201d laments the catchy introversion of \u2018Keep It to Myself\u2019<\/i>, mirroring the head-nodding anthem to indifference of <i>\u2018So What\u2019<\/i>. Similarly, <i>\u2018Kings of the Here and Now\u2019<\/i> spits, <i>\u201cWe\u2019ve had enough of it, we never take no shit,\u201d<\/i> standing its ground with authentic punk aggravation. There\u2019s safety in numbers throughout <i>\u2018Save Your Breath\u2019<\/i>, declaring the unavoidable truth that, <i>\u201cI\u2019m a total fuck-up, you\u2019re a total fuck-up, everyone you know is fucked up too.\u201d<\/i> Nothing like a punk-esque blunt insult.<\/p>\n<p>The title track explores the record\u2019s pirate theme, swashbuckling its way through an acoustic backing to frontman Ali\u2019s menacing whispers, while the swelling tide of <i>\u2018Under the Deep Blue Sea\u2019<\/i> showcases phenomenal sticksmanship from Ed Udhus. The deceptively optimistic melody of <i>\u2018Battle Hymn\u2019<\/i> provides a generous soundtrack to a piratical stand-off, following the energetic commanding <i>\u2018Wasted Generation\u2019<\/i> \u2013 laced with a cleverly disguised adaptation of Iron Maiden\u2019s \u2018Trooper\u2019 in its opening notes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Zebrahead<\/b> continue to revel in their ability to wave at trends and fads as they sail right past them.
