The good news is it\u2019s as surprising as it is satisfying.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Earl, King, Whatever<\/em>\u2019 opens in a similar way to a Frank Turner record, until a wave of whirly synths and guitars arrive, assuring you that is going to be an unpredictable and wild ride. The septet provides a wealth of talents, all blended together to make one of the most interesting canvases you\u2019re going to hear this year.<\/p>\n<p>No matter where the music decides to go, vocalist Joey Ashworth sounds excellent. \u2018<em>Almost Zero<\/em>\u2019 contains a weighty sadness, but cleverly this style isn\u2019t used everywhere, it\u2019s more of a tool from an interesting and varied toolbox. We\u2019re even treated to an unusual spoken word poem on \u2018<em>Goodbye To All That<\/em>\u2019 which lays carefully around chugging guitars. Yes, occasionally songs veer into noisy abrasive sections, but that bite never becomes overpowering.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"itoldyouiwouldeatyou - Young American [Official Video]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qnFB5d7yLE0?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Holly Readman\u2019s vocals provide a delicate counterpoint on many of the songs, and the echoing back-forth on <em>\u2018Get Terrified\u2019<\/em> remains every bit as effective in this context as on the EP. The almost randomly shouty vocals laced throughout the near nine-minute \u2018<em>Greek Fire<\/em>\u2019 work exceptionally well and bring to mind Birmingham\u2019s Johnny Foreigner. Perhaps unsurprisingly, as Alexei Berrow provides the guitars here too. His distinct style is stamped over this collection, but make no mistake, this band is unique.<\/p>\n<p>Partly, this is due to the song construction, every track is so well thought out, for example \u2018<em>Gathering Things Together and Not Dividing Them\u2019<\/em> begins in a totally different space to where it ends, evolving throughout its runtime but never getting lost along the way. A vision shared by all nine songs, giving an overall sound that is strange, surreal and quite affecting.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh, Dearism\u2019<\/em> is a unique blend of indie talents and one you really shouldn\u2019t miss.<\/p>\n<p>4.5\/5<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh, Dearism\u2019<\/em> by <strong>itoldyouiwouldeatyou<\/strong> is released on 16<sup>th<\/sup> November by <strong>Alcopop!
