To put it bluntly, October is stacked with releases.<\/p>\n<p>From hotly tipped acts such as <b>Beach Slang<\/b>, <b>Microwave<\/b>, <b>Head North<\/b> and <b>Seaway<\/b> to exciting returns from the likes of <b>Coheed and Cambria<\/b>, <b>Fightstar<\/b> and <b>Arcane Roots<\/b> to charming albums from <b>Sam Russo<\/b> and <b>Allison Weiss<\/b>, this months edition of <i>&ldquo;Incoming&rdquo;<\/i> is a fine array of musical goodness.<\/p>\n<p>Read on to find out why these are 6 essential releases you <i>have<\/i> to hear this month.<\/p>\n<p><i>Think we&rsquo;ve missed something out? Let us know in the comments.<\/i><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/0e0e8948c9b9dae5a2201ef27638e974\/tumblr_nvif5a8rYV1r8no6so1_540.jpg\" width=\"250px\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><b>Coheed and Cambria &#8211; The Colour Before the Sun<\/b><br \/>\nAlbum number eight sees <b>Coheed and Cambria<\/b> leave the fictional world of <i>&lsquo;The Amory Wars&rsquo;<\/i> behind to produce a collection of explosive and personal songs. Nevertheless <i>&#8216;The Colour Before the Sun&rsquo;<\/i> is still <b>Coheed<\/b> at the core; big choruses, epic guitars, and the expected hint of prog are still in tact.<\/figure>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Lyrically Claudio Sanchez is his most open and frank (see the stripped acoustic number <i>&#8216;Ghost&rsquo;<\/i>). However they&rsquo;re still as powerful as ever and when combined with storming instrumentation (<i>&#8216;Atlas&rsquo;<\/i>) that is consistently rich in texture and delivery. <\/p>\n<p>The quality of the songs on <i>&#8216;The Colour Before the Sun&rsquo;<\/i> is some of <b>C&amp;C<\/b>&rsquo;s finest to date. Recent single <i>&#8216;You Got Spirit, Kid&rsquo;<\/i> is without a doubt one of the finest rock songs of 2015. Whilst <i>&#8216;Here to Mars&rsquo;<\/i> are relatable and engaging and opening track <i>&#8216;Island&rsquo;<\/i> allows the quartet to thrive on perfect pop melodies. In addition <i>&#8216;Colors&rsquo;<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Atlas&rsquo;<\/i> are smooth and glorious in their delivery. No matter how many bands crop up in the scene, the  pop punk genre can be a tricky one to perfect. However having delivered three stellar songs from the album already, we&rsquo;ve got high hopes for <i>&#8216;Colour Blind&rsquo;<\/i>. The Canadian quintet clearly have the formula down to a tee as <i>&#8216;Freak&rsquo;<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Airhead&rsquo;<\/i> are infectious with choruses that demand to be sung out loud. Add to that instrumentation that is boisterous and simply jumps out of you, it&rsquo;s clear <b>Seaway<\/b> are on to a winner.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Like most genres, pop punk is going through a cycle where we&rsquo;re seeing more bands sound like the &ldquo;heyday&rdquo; of the early 2000s, and it sees <i>&#8216;Colour Blind&rsquo;<\/i> plays into that theory. And we&rsquo;re not complaining it. We&rsquo;ve got a good feeling that <b>Seaway<\/b> may just be about to break away from the pack and <i>&#8216;Colour Blind&rsquo;<\/i> will be the key to do just that. Both bands offer the emotionally driven new wave of &ldquo;emo&rdquo; that takes us back to our youth when bands like Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday were prevalent in our lives.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>We can imagine young kids everywhere being taken in by this music, much like we were, and experiencing that spark for the first time. And that&rsquo;s pretty damn special. This split, albeit only 3 tracks from each artist, has the power and passion of a full length from an established artist. It holds heavy in the weight of it&rsquo;s sway and it&rsquo;s really not often we feel this way about music anymore. Both bands excite us, and that means a hell of a lot these days. Now we get to bask in the warm glow of his latest batch of bluesy folk gems when his second full length <i>\u2019Greyhound Dreams\u2019<\/i> drops this month. Russo\u2019s eye for wanderlust drenched narrative and plaintive bluegrass charm oozes through everything he does, and this album will surely prove to be as earnest and genuine an effort as we\u2019ll get in the plethora of Revival Tour aping folk-punk releases we\u2019ve had this year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>We suspect that spinning this will make you want to tramp across America and sink moonshine in the fading light of a mid-west sunset. Although that\u2019s a long way to go, so we\u2019ll have to settle for own brand scotch and the glare of a computer screen. Still, it won\u2019t detract from the cracking nature of Russo\u2019s writing and delivery. Don\u2019t believe us? We loved her debut album <i>\u2019Say What You Mean\u2019<\/i>, ditto for last year\u2019s <i>\u2019Remember When\u2019<\/i>, and she\u2019s wowed us live quite a few times too. There\u2019s just something about her sugary acoustic backed melodies and feels by the bucket load that proves impossible not to like or root for.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Now with the pending release of that always tricky to nail second album, <i>\u2018New Love\u2019<\/i> you can take all that and times it tenfold. This is the album that see\u2019s Weiss evolve from loveable peddler of quirky yet emotive acoustic ballads to fully formed pop songstress. With a bit of help from producer Jenny Owen Youngs and a fuller, new wave-esque synth pop sound, Wiess is set to deliver pure delight in audio form. Don\u2019t worry though those pesky feels won\u2019t be too far away either. Here\u2019s the one album this month that\u2019ll make you do a little cry as you grin and do an awkward shuffling dance. Ok maybe that last part\u2019s just us\u2026 (DW)<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;New Love&rsquo;<\/i> by <b>Allison Weiss<\/b> is released on October 2nd on <b>SideOneDummy<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/8ae5dcf384b68a3ed159de3f820101b9\/tumblr_inline_nv1k2mxyjd1t3m09q_540.jpg\" width=\"250px\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><b>Arcane Roots &#8211; Heaven &amp; Earth EP<\/b><br \/>With two superb albums already under their belt, <strong>Arcane Roots<\/strong> should have a sizeable following, however judging by the size of the venues on their last last UK headlining tour, they haven\u2019t had the exposure that their immense talent deserves. To compensate, the band have spent the summer courting new listeners at UK festivals, including an outstanding set at Hevy Fest, and have recently signed to <b>Sony Red<\/b>\/<b>Easy Life<\/b> for the release of new EP <em>\u2018Heaven and Earth\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>With the band\u2019s previous records sounding like Biffy Clyro on steroids, an easy way to attract more listeners may have been to soften the sound and produce something more radio-friendly. However, judging by <em>\u2018Slow Dance\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves\u2019<\/em>, the heavier aspects have got even heavier and the melodic parts are even more angelic. Excitingly, this is their existing sound, just amped up another level. Now expanded to a full-time quartet, the life-affirming rockers are back with more tales of missed opportunities and redemption in the shape of their debut full-length, <i>\u2018The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Having hit on a sound that recalls everything from emo-punk heroes Jawbreaker and Samiam to 80\u2019s alt legends The Replacements and Dinosaur Jr., <b>Beach Slang<\/b> reference some of the best in the business. The beauty with their sound is that it is resolutely timeless; no gimmicks or fads, just straight up bloody great songs. And <i>\u2018The Things We Do\u2026\u2019 <\/i> is packed full of them. Lead single <i> \u2018Bad Art &amp; Weirdo Ideas\u2019<\/i> is probably the group\u2019s finest song to date, while <i>\u2018Too Late To Die Young\u2019<\/i> recalls <i>\u2018Skyway\u2019<\/i>, one of The Replacements\u2019 finest moments. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Paul Westerberg said it best \u2013 in fact he said it so well, <b>Beach Slang<\/b> decided to pay homage to it on the brilliant <i>\u2018Hard Luck Kid\u2019<\/i> \u2013 but there\u2019s something hugely appealing about bands with one foot in the door, the other one in the gutter. That\u2019s the embodiment of <b>Beach Slang<\/b>&rsquo;s sound; courting breakout success with a sincerity that can\u2019t be faked, but which comes hard-earned with bitter experience. The band announced the new album back in February, before embarking on a summer of excellent festival performances, including Download and Hevy Fest.<\/p>\n<p>The revitalised <strong>Fightstar<\/strong> certainly aren\u2019t holding any punches; the two tracks released so far, <em>\u2018Animal\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018Sharp Tongue\u2019<\/em> are among the heaviest tracks the band have produced, with drop-tuned guitars and deep screams delivering raw aggression, before Charlie Simpson\u2019s unique vocal tone brings the hooks in the choruses. It\u2019s an impactful statement to make and announces the new material with a literal bang.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The band are touring the UK through October in support of the record, with support from Arcane Roots and Making Monsters. If these performances are anything like the festival shows over the summer, then ticketholders are in for a treat.
