{"id":73207,"date":"2018-12-06T12:00:02","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T12:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/?p=73207"},"modified":"2018-12-05T21:16:28","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T21:16:28","slug":"sick-of-it-all-pissed-off-as-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/sick-of-it-all-pissed-off-as-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"Sick Of It All: Pissed Off As Ever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-73249\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/636755438152584410-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Sick Of It All\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;For us, we just want to carry on fighting for what we believe in.&#8221;<\/em><\/h1>\n<p>The sound of New York Hardcore in the late 80s and early 90s defined the sound of a generation.\u00a0It gave birth to a whole wave of bands from the States who were angry and pissed off and had something to say.\u00a0With revolution at a ground level seemingly more and more in the news today, a new wave of angry and aggressive bands are leading the way in the rebellious world that is known as hardcore.\u00a0However, not to be outdone by their younger counterparts, NYHC originals\u00a0<strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong> are just as pissed off as ever and have something to say about it.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSome people think revolution is just for the young but we are an example of that is not the case,\u201d<\/em> <strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong> vocalist Lou Koller told Already Heard.<em>\u00a0\u201cWe have always written about how we are feeling at that exact moment in time, and obviously right now here (in the USA) and overseas things are crazy politically.\u00a0So that is one of the main reasons we are still writing angry political music.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is this angry political message that serves as a heavy theme through the bands&#8217; latest studio release <em>&#8216;Wake The Sleeping Dragon!&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>And even though this is their 12<sup>th<\/sup> full-length, Koller believes the message is as relevant now as it ever was, especially to people of his age, not just the younger generation<em>. &#8220;The interesting thing for us is that a lot of people who we grew up with when we were younger, are now all in these cushy jobs and they started to leaning to the far right, which is a bit whatever, it\u2019s down to them, but for us it\u2019s like &#8216;what happened to your rebellious side?&#8217;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut this can also be applied to people who in their younger years were left-leaning and are getting complacent and no longer standing up for what they believe in. For us, we just want to carry on fighting for what we believe in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"SICK OF IT ALL - That Crazy White Boy Shit (OFFICIAL VIDEO)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P62rafKnbzM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One thing is for certain when it comes to\u00a0<strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong>, you can expect a hard-hitting record with those elements that made the New York sound still so prevalent in their music.\u00a0The title track from the new record is a prime example of this with Koller\u2019s lyrics clearly addressing the political climate in the States. With the first word you hear the vocalist screaming being <em>&#8220;Nazis,&#8221;<\/em> it sets the tone, and then to the chorus where the lyrics <em>\u201cCan you hear me? Help me? Free me? Decimate the masses The means of this corrupt state\u201d<\/em> outline the outpouring of not just the band, but how a large majority of the United States is currently feeling.<\/p>\n<p>With 12 records under their belt, it could easily be mistaken to think that\u00a0<strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong> are just churning out albums, but for Koller and co this is most certainly not the case.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe used to think that we had to release records all the time,\u201d<\/em> he continues.\u00a0\u201c<em>We used to release a new album every two years, but I think you can tell in some of those records things are a little bit rushed.\u00a0Now we won\u2019t put something out unless we have something to say, we have kinda taken stock of what we want this band to stand for.\u00a0We realised \u2018oh we don\u2019t need to keeping putting out music like this\u2019 and that we can wait until we have something to say and go through the process properly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the new record coming out in a new high time for hardcore, <strong>Sick Of It All<\/strong> may, to the untrained ear, seem more relevant now than they ever have.\u00a0But for Koller, the hardcore world has always been there and leading the way with angry aggressive music, it is just now more people are taking note.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe came along at a time when hardcore was fresh and new and that helped establish us,&#8221;<\/em> Koller explains.<em> &#8220;There are bands who have done records that are way bigger than ours but they just couldn\u2019t keep at it.\u00a0Some people have called it a revival, but it\u2019s not that.
