\"\"<\/a>As their unabashedly generic naming convention of \u2018plural noun\u2019 would suggest, there\u2019s a niggling suspicion that Currents<\/b> aren\u2019t all that fussed with growing their audience or finding favour outside of their established fanbase. It\u2019s not that\u00a0\u2019I Let The Devil In\u2019<\/i> provides much of a counter-argument either; a metalcore EP released in mid-December is rarely going to pick up much steam, but comprising of five new tracks, bolstered by instrumental renditions for each, seems tailored towards existing fans and no one else.<\/p>\n

And really, it\u2019s not as though the music itself does much to unravel that argument either; this is functional, fine metalcore that can provide some mild thrills, but wouldn\u2019t hesitate to lose itself amid the torrents of this exact same thing. And the unfortunate thing is, when Currents<\/b> seem to be under the impression they\u2019re doing something to stand out, it couldn\u2019t be further from the truth. Sure, the progressive touches on \u2019My Disguise\u2019<\/i> are fine, as is the increased melodic focus on \u2019To Feel Empty\u2019<\/i> and \u2019The Rope\u2019<\/i>, but when they\u2019ve been the two go-to directions in metalcore for years now, it can feel increasingly threadbare here.<\/p>\n
