Now, with <i>\u2018A Death Grip on Yesterday\u2019<\/i> and nothing more than a <i>\u2018Paper Anchor\u2019<\/i> holding them back, <i>\u2018The Curse\u2019<\/i> has returned to the <i>\u2018Congregation of the Damned\u2019<\/i> and it\u2019s time for a new chapter, just as epic as the last five.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>The cataclysmic opening to the title track evidently revives the chaos they\u2019re best known for. With Alex Varkatzas on top vocal form and Brandon Saller\u2019s backing vocals as emotive as ever, this comeback was well worth the wait. <i>\u201cSomehow we\u2019ll make it through the pain,\u201d<\/i> cries Saller, backed by Dan Jacobs\u2019 trademark haunting guitar solo. Defiant, unstoppable and unrelenting, just the way <b>Atreyu<\/b> should be.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Venomous and no-holds-barred, lead single <i>\u2018So Others May Live\u2019<\/i> was the first we\u2019d heard from them in four years, and what a phenomenal return to form. Appropriately, <i>\u2018Live To Labor\u2019<\/i> brings a brilliantly mosh-worthy solo to the table, vengeful and violent in equal measure. Similarly, Alex and Brandon\u2019s vocals play out a harsh and heartfelt dialogue throughout <i>\u2018I Would Kill Lie Die (For You)\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Start to Break\u2019<\/i>, denouncing heartache with a conviction akin to <i>&lsquo;The Curse&rsquo;<\/i>&rsquo;s heyday. The winding <i>\u2018Moments Before Dawn\u2019<\/i> masterfully showcases Brandon\u2019s seductive tones, echoing side project Hell or Highwater, while a devastating discourse between authoritative drums and a destroying riff defines aptly-titled <i>\u2018Reckless.\u2019<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI can\u2019t hold you together if you don\u2019t wanna stay,\u201d<\/i> Alex cries beyond the towering melody of <i>\u2018A Bitter Broken Memory,\u2019<\/i> while a belting solo through <i>\u2018Do You Know Who You Are\u2019<\/i> proves testament to Dan Jacobs\u2019 talent. There\u2019s certainly a demon living inside the menacing <i>\u2018Cut off the Heard\u2019<\/i>, making itself quite comfortable next to yet another punishing riff.
