For some, it can be a snapshot of life at its most reckless and carefree, and for others, they&#8217;re\u00a0filled with periods of angst and anxiety which still haunt your mind in later years. Listening to <i>\u2018Late Teens\u2019<\/i> from Melbourne newcomers <b>Press Club<\/b>, one senses they understand how it feels experience the latter experience of adolescents.<\/p>\n<p>With plentiful amounts of catchy melodies captured by live one-take recording sessions, <i>\u2018Late Teens\u2019<\/i> thrives on these bursts of spontaneity. Natalie Foster keeps listeners inspired during opener <i>\u2018Crash\u2019<\/i> as her voice keeps building in tension through its verses and pre-choruses before dousing us in the bittersweet lushness of its chorus message; <i>\u201cI\u2019m not in it I\u2019m always quitting, I\u2019m always on the other side\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Press Club \u2013 Headwreck\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LagxmlvBvEI?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Although it\u2019s easy to get lost in the hazy buzzsaw guitar-heavy production, Foster proves herself the centrepiece of the album. Her thought process in these lyrics tends to fluctuate between yearning optimism (<i>\u201cI can\u2019t relate to letting all your dreams go\u201d<\/i>) and insecurity (<i>\u201cMy young heart, there\u2019s nothing to say but I\u2019m messed up\u201d<\/i>). As a lyricist, one can tell she draws from life experiences that have resulted in trauma and pain, in both relationships, isolation and severe loss.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s knowing this, and hearing the sense of hope that shines through the songs regardless that makes <i>\u2018Late Teens\u2019<\/i> such a triumphant listen. In her confrontation of struggles from the past, Foster can hold her head high and tell herself she doesn\u2019t need to let her doubts consume her.
