\nWith a name like South Berkeley<\/strong>, you’d think the pop-punk trio would call California as their hometown. However, they hail from Paris and Nice in France. Nevertheless, from listening to their brand new single, ‘Glass N Sparks’<\/em>, the trio of Hubert Mousseigne (guitars & vocals), Cl\u00e9ment Zaetta (bass & vocals) and Jordan Soussan (drums) are certainly influenced by those from the Golden State.<\/p>\n

Consisting of anthemic harmonies, well-honed drum work and even plucky acoustics, ‘Glass N Sparks’<\/em> is a punchy introduction to South Berkeley<\/strong>. Besides on the surface is an upbeat slice of pop-punk, lyrically the track has a deeply sentimental core.<\/p>\n

“This is the story of a guy who lost his girlfriend in a car crash and he just can\u2019t get over it,”<\/em> explains\u00a0Mousseigne. “Apart from the descriptive lyrics, we wanted to address the guilt theme and how to cope with this feeling. Everybody has to face the consequences of past choices and accept the fact that we can\u2019t go back in time.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Hubert also told us about how\u00a0‘Glass N Sparks’<\/em>\u00a0came together.\u00a0“To be honest, I think it\u2019s one of the richest songs of the album. We already had the intro riff and the chorus, which we thought was very cool. After many attempts, we wrote this soft acoustic verse which works well with the rest of the song. The reverse piano adds this dramatic feel, fitting great with lyrics.”<\/em><\/p>\n

‘Glass N Sparks’<\/i><\/em> is the first taster from\u00a0South Berkeley<\/strong>‘s\u00a0<\/strong>forthcoming debut album – ‘Too Slow’<\/em>. Although it’s not expected to be released until later this year on KROD Records<\/strong>, we’re pleased to be premiering the video for\u00a0‘Glass N Sparks’.<\/i><\/em><\/p>\n
