\"\"<\/a>In December, Inglorious<\/b> frontman Nathan James went on a rant following the departure of three members of the band, making some – shall we say – bold claims like \u201cI\u2019m a singer. I\u2019ll sing anything anywhere and I promise you it\u2019ll be really good\u201d<\/em>. Whatever followed something like that was going to be one hell of a \u2018put up or shut up\u2019 moment, and you would certainly hope that \u2019Ride To Nowhere\u2019<\/i> can match up.<\/p>\n

And to give him credit, he does<\/i> have a good voice, but that\u2019s about all that Inglorious<\/b> have going for them, as \u2019Ride To Nowhere\u2019<\/i> feels like any other dull-as-dishwater hard rock band that would have no chance if classic rock stations weren\u2019t looking for newer bands to fit their demographic. In all honesty, that could be the entire review; from the very first track \u2019Where Are You Now?\u2019<\/i>, \u2019Ride To Nowhere\u2019<\/i> amounts to little more than the same turgid, tepid pile-up of riff-rock banality that anyone would expect from a band like this.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not totally irredeemable either, with the likes of \u2018Freak Show\u2019<\/i> and \u2019Liar\u2019<\/i> bearing the customary examples of hooks that actually connect, but even then, there\u2019s not a moment of this album that feels like Inglorious<\/b> drawing on their own ideas. The pedestrian, low-energy plod is bad enough, but dig deeper into flimsy, uninspired balladry like \u2019Never Alone\u2019<\/i> or the Alter Bridge-aping title track, and it\u2019s hard to see where any greater appeal lies.<\/p>\n

Sure, the veteran rockers struggling to find value in modern music might gravitate towards this in a pinch, but even in modern hard rock or retro-rock, Inglorious<\/b> are lagging in a critical way. It\u2019s certainly listenable, but for an album that runs too long and lacks any conceivable verve or spark, it\u2019s hard to see what enjoyment can be gleaned here. Nathan James might talk a big game, but like the album\u2019s title suggests, this ride is going nowhere.<\/p>\n
