Unfortunately, <em>\u2018Angry Youth\u2019<\/em> is lacking in a statement sound, leading to an album that gives no clear idea of who <strong>Slenders<\/strong> really are.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Close To\u2019<\/em> opens the record with a burst of energy. The\u00a0guitar tone is almost identical to Blink-182\u2019s early one. Shouted vocals, chugging guitars and punchy drums form the roots of<strong> Slenders<\/strong>\u2019 go-to style; <em>\u2018Close To\u2019<\/em>\u00a0strictly adheres to this formula, along with the rest of <em>\u2018Angry Youth\u2019.<\/em> When captured on record, this style does nothing entice or excite the listener. Despite this, there\u2019s an amazing energy that hints at an impressive live show from this Italian quartet.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing the theme of classic pop-punk is <em>\u2018Broken Bones\u2019<\/em>, opening with shouts of <em>\u201cWe started from a sh*tty town\u201d<\/em>. A hefty bassline and faster pace work to pull this track together, but it\u2019s heavily let down by the production. The mix has left the song feeling rather muffled and incomplete, something that becomes a recurring theme throughout the record.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Slenders - Close To (Official Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Sa4QuyiN0Lg?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A brilliant old-school punk sound causes <em>\u2018ZAH\u2019<\/em> to stand out from this rather bland bunch of songs. While less than 40 seconds long, it\u2019s arguably the best track on this album. The songs following <em>\u2018ZAH\u2019<\/em> are more dynamic, with title track <em>\u2018Angry Youth\u2019<\/em> telling an interesting story of growth.<\/p>\n<p>Putting aside the subpar cover of <em>\u2018Boys Don&#8217;t\u00a0<\/em><em>Cry\u2019<\/em>, this is an interesting offeringfrom <strong>Slenders<\/strong>. Their guitar tone and storytelling ability are impressive but let down by poor production and a lack of experimentation. In an already overcrowded pop-punk music scene, <em>\u2018Angry Youth\u2019<\/em> offers nothing new.
