They\u2019ve always been serviceable, but have never made as much progression in their music, and thus have remained fairly stagnant for their last handful of albums. Still, there\u2019s evidently an audience, especially when <i>\u2019Hunter\u2019s Moon\u2019<\/i> is effectively a live album with a handful of new tracks to fill it out.<\/p>\n<p>And like with most live albums, it feels like something that\u2019s really only going to appeal to existing fans almost exclusively, and thus it\u2019s hard to judge as its own independent entity. It can certainly be questioned how warranted it is, especially when <b>Delain<\/b> aren\u2019t exactly the biggest players in symphonic metal, and that does translate to how much enjoyment can be gleaned from it. Yes, Charlotte Wessels does have a great voice, even in the live environment, but the likes of <i>\u2019Your Body Is A Battleground\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2019Sing For Me\u2019<\/i> don\u2019t really bring much that a Nightwish live offering would have with much greater spectacle, especially with how little they differ from their studio counterparts.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"DELAIN - Masters Of Destiny (Official Video) | Napalm Records\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nT14mlv92t4?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As for the new tracks, they\u2019re about as standard <b>Delain<\/b> fare as it comes. There\u2019s been next to no evolution for this band throughout their entire career, and while there\u2019s definitely a sense of bombast to the likes of the title track and <i>\u2019Art Kills\u2019<\/i>, it\u2019s very telling that they appear here as add-ons more than anything else. None of them are necessarily bad, but for a band who already lack distinction, more of the same isn\u2019t helping.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s largely true for <i>\u2019Hunter\u2019s Moon&#8217;<\/i> as a whole. It\u2019s bound to satisfy existing fans, but it\u2019s hard to escape how perfunctory it all feels, lacking in material worth checking out for anyone beyond the most dedicated of diehards.
