Once a small industrial centre, the steel mill providing the source of income for many inhabitants was shut down in the 1970s. This event has inspired the band of the same name to compose an album that encapsulates the rage of many losing their only source of income. \u2018<em>Remains<\/em>\u2019 paints a vivid picture of the despair of those losing everything by combining driving riffs with vocals that spit with fury.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Horndal<\/strong>\u2019s debut starts with \u2018<em>Wasteland<\/em>\u2019, which depicts the barren remains left by the mill\u2019s closure. The track starts out with attention-grabbing guitar stabs, which then boil down to a chugging riff.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout &#8216;<em>Remains&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>tracks such as &#8216;<em>Factory Shutdown&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>and &#8216;<em>Rotting Town&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>stir up a sense of spiralling despair, leaving you on edge.\u00a0&#8216;<em>Hin&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>shows\u00a0<strong>Horndal<\/strong>&#8216;s ability to create short tracks that still contain the ferocity shown on the rest of &#8216;<em>Remains&#8217;.\u00a0<\/em>At just under three minutes,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Hin&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>grabs the listener with a vocal and instrumental explosion.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"HORNDAL - WASTELAND (OFFICIAL VIDEO)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GtcXCb7jiso?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Horndal<\/strong> also uses dynamics in an effective way, giving the listener differentiation in intensity. This is evident in tracks such as \u2018<em>Fornby Klint<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>The Horndal Effect<\/em>\u2019, as they use a rise and fall effect in order to make the heavier parts sound even darker. If the tracks had even more variation in intensity, it would make the overall experience more engaging. While listening to &#8216;<em>Remains&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>from beginning to end, the experience is relentlessly harsh, yet the blow could be softened by using more contrasting dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>On the whole \u2018<em>Remains<\/em>\u2019 is a spectacular punch to the face.
