Like a herd of newborn lambs, SpringFest<\/strong> is a gathering of fresh blood from Scotland\u2019s metal scene who grace Church\u2019s stage fresh from the slaughterhouse with a thirst for chaos. So we\u2019d better see you up front.<\/p>\n Confirmed already for SpringFest<\/strong> are Dundonian quintet The Weight of Atlas<\/b>, who make their long-awaited return to the stage after the release of latest single \u2018V\u2019<\/i>. Since their 2011 formation, TWOA<\/b> have specialised in merging pummelling metalcore with pulsing electronic backdrops and stratospheric choruses packed with catchy hooks. It\u2019s a bewildering mix on paper, but we guarantee the likes \u2018Strangers\u2019<\/i> and \u2018The Art of Letting Go\u2019<\/i> are going to incite pits and sing-alongs in equal measure.<\/p>\n [youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lmoaqo8KL1U]<\/p>\n Fellow Dundonian troop Grievance<\/b> are poised for a full scale jugular assault at SpringFest<\/strong>. Following a series of lineup changes, the quintet return refreshed and re-energised to destroy the city once more. With an arsenal of hits up their sleeve including \u2018Torment\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Vultures\u2019<\/i>, Grievance fuse the gritty blast beat-laden deathcore of Thy Art is Murder with desolate neo-gothic melodies which anyone who has ever spent gloomy nights listening to Cradle of Filth will immediately connect with. Like a disease, Lashing Out<\/b> have spread across the UK\u2019s underground slam metal scene, performing across the country with the likes of Street Soldier, Spawn of Disgust and Capital Punishment. One listen to debut single \u2018Fight Club\u2019<\/i> is enough proof that this set is gonna be a nasty one. Only the strong will survive.<\/p>\n [youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hriRPb21jqo]<\/p>\n Fellow Aberdonians Purgatory\u2019s<\/b> cathartic post-hardcore has gone from strength-to-strength in the space of one year with the release of two EPs \u2018Foundations\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Martyr\u2019<\/i>. Since creating initial buzz with debut single \u2018Darkest Hour\u2019<\/i>, Purgatory<\/b> have become mainstays in the \u2018Deen headlining across the city and supporting the likes of Holding Absence, Sharkteeth Grinder and Dude Trips. Packing frantic energy to tracks like \u2018Sinner\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Martyr\u2019s\u2019<\/i> title track, this is a band unafraid to expose their raw emotion to mass crowds. And you shouldn\u2019t be afraid to experience it up close.<\/p>\n [youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m7FKXz-_dH0]<\/p>\n Satiracy<\/b> may have played their first ever show at Glasgow\u2019s Ivory Blacks, but their roots come from the City of Discovery, and Dundee have discovered the force of their genre-defying extreme metal on many occasions. The group\u2019s 2017 debut \u2018Chapters of Pestilence: Lost City\u2019<\/i> remains a cult classic of the Scottish metal circuit, seamlessly fusing the members\u2019 shared love of challenging technical musicianship on \u2018Penance\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Lost City\u2019<\/i> with the finest cuts of melodic death metal which shines through choruses to \u2018Unearth\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Son of a Veteran\u2019<\/i>. Alongside the immersive prog-metal of \u2018Ruins\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Skin Alive\u2019<\/i>, Satiracy\u2019s full package is gonna detonate Church, so don\u2019t miss out.<\/p>\n [youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wY-6_GsF5Pw]<\/p>\n Inverness death metal crew Section 9<\/b> may be the youngest lamb to join the flock, but their sound is a groove-laden throwback to some of the finest shapers of the genre, with rushes of old Cannibal Corpse and Sepultura fuelling their dense bludgeoning. Debut track \u2018Silent Annihilation\u2019<\/i> may only exist as a demo at the moment, but it\u2019s a track with \u2018circle pit\u2019 written all over it, as high paced shredding and screeching death growls give this song a rapid pulse before it bleeds out slowly through churning breakdowns to a close. Is it reinventing the wheel for death metal? Maybe not, but it\u2019s what the genre is all about at heart. Come see for yourself.<\/p>\n
