They lived in Canterbury and in 2016 released a charming little album called<em> &#8216;Congratulations&#8217;<\/em>. Sadly, the two parted ways, but the quaint little story continues. Singer-songwriter Aymen Saleh relocated to Milwaukee, home the musicians who inspired him. \u2018<em>Adult<\/em>\u2019 is his first full-length release from the perspective of a solo artist, telling the story of growing up and leaving home.<\/p>\n<p>Within moments of the opening musing \u2018<em>Adult #1<\/em>\u2019, you can hear how the adventure has shaped Saleh\u2019s song-writing, improving it, subtly. Making for a more delicate and affecting journey than anything he has written before. Just as quickly you realise why Saleh stuck with the <strong>Holy Pinto<\/strong> moniker, the familiar bright guitars and drum sound remain, as do the Canterbury-tinted vocals. Yet, the music feels more playful, especially when he\u2019s showing off his guitar skills with the lovely staccato strumming on \u2018Salt\u2019 or the percussive drift of \u2018<em>Brother<\/em>\u2019, sometimes even becoming raucously noisy, especially on the outro to \u2018<em>King<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Holy Pinto - Gold Leaf\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/isvtcB9k4bs?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Saleh\u2019s voice is where the magic lies. Meringue light, at times, you can almost hear the sadness sparkling in his eyes as he sings. However, delicate though it is, there\u2019s a glow to his performance which softly overpowers the melancholy, making everything here warm and life-affirming.<\/p>\n<p>Lyrically, the record is honest, whether Saleh is singing about smoking on the jaunty \u2018<em>Gold Leaf<\/em>\u2019 or of lost love on the uplifting \u2018<em>You Are My Seatbelt<\/em>\u2019, it feels relatable and genuine.\u00a0 \u2018<em>Daisychain<\/em>\u2019 is beautifully affecting and, with its forlorn refrain of <em>&#8220;I\u2019m never coming home&#8221;<\/em>, draws upon the album\u2019s deeper themes, of growing up and moving away.
