Consciousness-based music can sound like a bit of a contrived concept, even disingenuous. Despite this, <strong>Source<\/strong> is a band that has gained inspiration from a number of embodiment practices. &#8216;<em>Totality&#8217;<\/em> is the intriguing and enticing product born of this form of songwriting.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it is a brilliantly varied album, with heavy tracks rubbing shoulders with soothing acoustic tracks. <em>\u2018Benjamin\u2019<\/em> is the first track on the album, it blends huge riffs with melodic vocals in a way that is reminiscent of a classic 90s grunge track. The following track <em>\u2018Sinking\u2019<\/em> uses a tumbling vocal melody that mimics a sinking sensation. <em>\u2018Sinking\u2019<\/em> is a more interesting affair, showcasing the Colorado trio&#8217;s rhythmic variation, while the use of a tumbling vocal melody mimics a sinking sensation.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Unsure\u2019<\/em> sounds like an overdriven metal track at the start but is juxtaposed with melodic vocals. This juxtaposition is a constant theme throughout <em>&#8216;Totality&#8217;<\/em>, with full throttle riffs against sweet-sounding vocals. <em>\u2018Philiac\u2019<\/em> is another example of this, with a chugging riff and pounding drum beat.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Source - &quot;Benjamin&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OIg3RXZzZZk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Between<\/em>\u2019 is the pivotal track on &#8216;<em>Totality&#8217;<\/em>. A beautiful acoustic instrumental, it encapsulates the mindfulness and embodiment practices perfectly. It segues into <em>\u2018The Changes Constant\u2019,<\/em> reeling the listener in with a haunting piano part that is followed by a routine wall of riffs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>\u2019s ability to create atmosphere is no more apparent than on \u2018<em>Embodied<\/em>\u2019. At close to ten minutes long, its varied instrumentation ends the album on an enticing, yet very satisfactory note.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<em>Totality&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>is a thoroughly intriguing body of work.\u00a0<strong>Source\u00a0<\/strong>have successfully created an album that is varied but concise.
