\"The\u201cLook what you\u2019ve made,\u201d<\/i> calls out the self-deprecating \u2018Receipt,\u2019<\/i> allegorical of The Black Dahlia Murder<\/b>\u2019s unstoppable career to date and their namesake simultaneously.<\/figure>\n

Armed with relentless riffs and venomous vocals, The Black Dahlia Murder<\/b> are by no means wallflowers. The now-traditional two years since \u2018Everblack\u2019<\/i> have passed and brought with them \u2018Abysmal,\u2019<\/i> the seventh incarnation of their melodic death metal and the complete antithesis of its title. <\/p>\n

The somewhat orchestral opening of \u2018Receipt\u2019<\/i> soon descends into beautiful chaos, with a vitriolic vocal playoff showcasing their determination to prove their worth. Suitably bloodthirsty, \u2018Vlad, Son of the Dragon\u2019<\/i> insists on blazing its devastating path to the tune of vocalist Trevor Strnad on terrorising form. <\/p>\n

<\/figure>\n

Accompanied by an enchanting solo and leading line, the title track proves venomous as ever, while \u2018Re-Faced\u2019<\/i> demands your full attention turned to the pulverising dialogue between blood-curdling screams and doom-ridden growls. The appropriately-titled \u2018Threat Level No. 3\u2019<\/i> presents face-melting riffs amid mind-boggling drumwork, a testament to the masterpieces that emerge whenever the Michigan quintet set foot in a studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this is as close to hell as I’ll ever get,“<\/i> speaks the apprehensive female intro of \u2018Stigiophobic\u2019<\/i>, a fearsome and feral ode to the fear of hell, framed by the melodic and purposeful \u2018The Fog\u2019<\/i> and the ferocious snap of \u2018Asylum\u2019<\/i>. The melodic organised chaos of \u2018The Advent\u2019<\/i> builds up to a stunning crescendo of the now signature lofty title track, \u2018That Cannot Die Which Eternally Is Dead\u2019<\/i>, biding its time to strike before Ryan Knight hurls out two phenomenal solos. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s hardly surprising \u2018Abysmal\u2019<\/i> is a triumph, as it seems The Black Dahlia Murder<\/b> can\u2019t put a foot wrong. Consistent and rightly so, there\u2019s no end in sight for this lot, you just try and stop \u2018em. See you in another two years, lads.<\/p>\n
