Since the UK\u2019s economy and social values are being transported back to 1976, it\u2019s obvious why their debut EP <i>\u2018Cash In Hand\u2019<\/i> rings with as much urgency as it does.<\/p>\n<p>Revolving around danger, <i>\u2018Cash In Hand\u2019<\/i> establishes it\u2019s thrill-ride manifesto from the opening announcement <i>&#8220;May I have your attention please, please place your head beneath your knees&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0on <i>\u2018Going Down\u2019<\/i>. Discussing the uselessness of the brace position during an actual plane crash, it mirrors the reassurance our political leaders would like to comfort us in as our nation continues to plummet headfirst into the Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Paisley Pattern - Heavy Rapids [Official Audio]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/enfh5ig8NO0?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The only dip from the panic takes place in the mellow <i>\u2018Hurricane E\u2019<\/i>, where frontman Dillon Squire basks in the brief comfort in a pleasant drug experience &#8211; <i>&#8220;you can be who you are, no worries no fears, blissfully unaware of the problems on the other side&#8221;<\/i>.\u00a0The peace is soon shattered on their hometown ode <i>\u2018Paisley Pattern\u2019<\/i>. (&#8220;<i>They say this is a place where dreams go to die, they\u2019re fighting in the streets for their pride<\"\/i>.) The rhythm section builds in tension throughout the song that puts you right in the centre of the action as you get jumped late at night.<\/p>\n<p>Like their contemporaries in The Dunts, Rascalton, Voodoos and many more, <b>Heavy Rapids<\/b>\u2019 aim to just to write songs about their day-to-day lives, but put them all together, and you begin to piece together a tapestry of social deprivation and moral panic across Glasgow, combated with dry humour and rock and fucking roll. <i>\u2018Cash In Hands\u2019<\/i> musicianship may be minimalist and raw, but it\u2019s rich in storytelling and points you directly to their reality.
