While it would\u2019ve seemed at the time that <i>\u2018Rise Of The Lion\u2019<\/i> would be the curtain call for the scene\u2019s consistent frontrunners, the mere existence of this fifth venture defines their determination. While immortality may well be a shot too far, 2014\u2019s mistakes drive 2015\u2019s step in the right direction, albeit not an astounding one. <!-- more --><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>A distinct sense of trepidation and foreboding opens <i>\u2018I.H.E\u2019<\/i>, a straightforward denunciation of pretty much everyone, framed by frontman Levi Benton\u2019s signature roar. There\u2019s no surrender in sight for the punishing screams of <i>\u2018Trust My Heart (Hope To Die)\u2019<\/i>, showcasing Levi\u2019s determination and conviction in its raw state.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cYou\u2019re deafening my demons,\u201d<\/i> growls the statement of intent <i>\u2018Psychotic Romantic\u2019<\/i>, relentless from the onset \u2013 it\u2019s plain to see they have their past square in the crosshair. Honourable mentions must go to drummer Jerod Boyd, whose phenomenal efforts receive their dues on the title track.<\/p>\n<p>A venomous anthem to ascension, <i>\u2018Arise\u2019<\/i> depicts a contrasting vocal playoff with Ryan Neff\u2019s cleans and Levi\u2019s rage, adding to the emotional canyon opened up by the echoing <i>\u2018Bastards Left Behind\u2019<\/i>. Ryan appropriately takes centre stage with his melodic pleas throughout <i>\u2018Turn Back The Time\u2019<\/i>, assuming an amicable position at just the right time, refusing to outstay his welcome.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cYou always let me down,\u201d<\/i> calls out the echoing tongue-in-cheek disappointment of <i>\u2018Empty Promises\u2019<\/i>. Melodic licks throughout <i>\u2018Born From Nothing\u2019<\/i> close the record on a reflective sentiment of discarding their past mistakes.
