From the outset, it&#8217;s clear the London-based quartet are looking to make a real statement. And you can&#8217;t blame them, as it&#8217;s been seven years since the release of their debut album \u2018<em>Role Models?<\/em>\u2019 but has the wait been worth it?<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it\u2019s standard pop-punk fare. There are shades of Simple Plan, blink-182 and All Time Low present \u2013 the band risk sounding generic in parts, not really asserting themselves and conveying over a distinct identity. Opener \u2018<em>Reasons<\/em>\u2019 is essentially the entire album in microcosm; fun and frantic but not particularly going anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>As they\u2019ve evolved over the past few years,<strong> The Bottom Line<\/strong> have gone for a cleaner sound, it\u2019s all pulsating power chords and angsty vocals from Amies. \u201c<em>Let\u2019s go back to the start\/And watch it fall apart<\/em>\u201d he sings on \u2018<em>Over And Over<\/em>\u2019, the sort of intense, punchy pop-punk track that feels destined to be a highlight of <strong>The Bottom Line<\/strong>\u2019s live show, surely making a future appearance at Slam Dunk.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Bottom Line - In Your Memory (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4DMHIbjRMa0?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As an album, \u2018<em>No Vacation\u2019<\/em> begins to get slightly stronger as it goes on, \u2018<em>Like The Movies<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>Everything<\/em>\u2019 being an emphatic double whammy. \u2018<em>Everything<\/em>\u2019 is more melodic than some of the more straight-forward pop-punk here, and hints at more exciting directions in which the band could move in future. Whereas \u2018<em>No Vacation<\/em>\u2019 begins as enjoyable but not remarkable pop-punk, they start to come into their own with the former tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Overall though, nothing that <strong>The Bottom Line<\/strong> do here is particularly original or inventive, when compared to the likes of Neck Deep and The Faim. Difficult second album? Not exactly, but it\u2019s still unclear where exactly the band go from here.
