Four years after their last studio venture, the Perth quartet have taken 2015\u2019s lineup shuffles in their stride. \u2018Resister\u2019<\/i> heralds a newly energised era for The Decline<\/b>, accompanying their impending UK tour with a versatile and carefree record to prove they’ll do whatever they want from now on, to hell with the consequences.<\/p>\n

<\/figure>\n

Racing opener \u2018New Again\u2019<\/i> is brief yet packs an impressive guitar solo alongside the lamenting monotone of vocalist Ben Elliott. \u201cWill you be there when the happy ones give up?\u201d<\/i> queries \u2018Giving Up Is A Gateway Drug\u2019<\/i>, bursting with character and a phenomenal drum backing.<\/p>\n

From the summery skate soundtrack of \u2018I Don\u2019t Believe\u2019<\/i> to the downcast reflections of \u2018Almost Never Met You\u2019<\/i>, The Decline<\/b> allow both actions and words to speak as loudly as possible. With intricate fretwork framed by expert drums, \u2018The Blurst Of Times\u2019<\/i> demonstrates the natural coherence of a band that\u2019s not just been brought together by a love of punk, but also by their sheer talent.<\/p>\n

Spitting words before they burn his tongue, \u2018Broken Bones\u2019<\/i> displays Ben Elliott at his most livid, while the traditional punk solemnity of \u2018You Call This A Holiday\u2019<\/i> unexpectedly changes key to a passive aggressive ode to the way things used to be.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by an eccentric barbershop quartet rendition, \u2018Wrecking Ball\u2019<\/i> snaps forth at an unrelenting pace, crying \u201cYou\u2019ve had everything I\u2019ve got, so just keep me as a memory of everything you\u2019ve lost.\u201d<\/i> Similarly, the venomous, and quite frankly humorous lyrics of \u2018You\u2019re Not The Waitress\u2019<\/i> contrast its optimistic instrumental backing.<\/p>\n

Despite lasting a princely 30 seconds, \u2018Little Voices\u2019<\/i> crams in enough fervour and character to rival its lengthier counterparts. Sadly not an ode to the Camden venue, \u2018Underworld Tour\u2019<\/i> stands as a quirky anthem bursting with individuality, but before long \u2018Start Again\u2019<\/i> draws the record to a close on a fantastically vibrant guitar solo.<\/p>\n

A well-rounded and expertly crafted record, \u2018Resister\u2019<\/i> depicts The Decline<\/b> at their most creative and disdainful – looking back in anger but vowing to learn from past mistakes.<\/p>\n
