Returning with full-length, \u2018<em>You Can Miss Something &amp; Not Want It Back<\/em>\u2019, they are ready to prove it wasn\u2019t a one-off.<\/p>\n<p>With a wealth of experience on the Utah music scene, it\u2019s no surprise the band are confident songwriters. \u00a0The delicate opener \u2018<em>Feel The Same<\/em>\u2019 is the perfect example. It\u2019s simple, but Jeffery Mudgett\u2019s voice is nuanced and has real depth. From here onward, he uses his ability to mine sorrowful topics to create rousing, optimistic songs like \u2018<em>I Hope You\u2019re Okay<\/em>\u2019. This tone is infused through the whole record. It can be heard clearly on \u2018<em>Better Now<\/em>\u2019, which adds a little noisy uplift just when the album needs it.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t have to dig deep to see Mudgett\u2019s influences, especially on \u2018<em>Home<\/em>\u2019 and the intro to \u2018<em>Fading<\/em>\u2019, but importantly, the songs here have a life of their own. A fair description would be if morose-rockers Citizen learned to smile. In a similar way, <strong>Sunsleeper<\/strong> use a fluid style without losing their focus. \u00a0This works on songs such as \u2018<em>No Cure<\/em>\u2019, which feels a little like it\u2019s tripping over itself, but never stops tapping a raw, emotional vein. Filtered through the band\u2019s warm lens, it really makes a mark.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Sunsleeper - Better Now (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UCHt3Zoo5vY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What makes the album stand out is the band\u2019s willingness to push themselves.\u00a0 This is notable when louder guitars interrupt the softness of \u2018<em>Souvenir<\/em>\u2019 but elsewhere it\u2019s far more subtle. Sleepy-sounding melody lines on \u2018<em>Casual Mistakes<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>Home<\/em>\u2019 give one impression, while the songs carefully aim elsewhere. It\u2019s intelligent and effective, hinting at what the future may hold.<\/p>\n<p>Strong and confident, \u2018<em>You Can Miss Something &amp; Not Want It Back<\/em>\u2019 is crammed with lovingly crafted songs.
