When you think of rock’n’roll, you think of dirty riffs, adrenaline-fuelled drums and raw vocals. York five-piece The Bastard Sons<\/b> tick all those boxes on their debut album – ‘Smoke’<\/i>. It’s packed with rousing, riff-filled numbers that are executed with passion from start to finish. Their sound truly packs a heavy punch; brutal, ferocious and thrilling.<\/p>\n

We wanted to know what made the York rockers headbang and lose their sh*t whilst writing ‘Smoke’<\/i>. So we asked them to name 5 albums that have influenced them along the way.<\/p>\n

\"\"He Is Legend – Heavy Fruit<\/b>
\nThis album helped us realise that being heavy isn’t just about being loud, it’s about making music sound brutal yet melodic. It’s great to see the progression of He Is Legend throughout their career and this album is 100% their greatest creation!<\/p>\n

\"\"Every Time I Die – Big Dirty<\/b>
\n Huge filthy riffs from one of best bands around. Just the right balance of chaos and precision with some huge hooks!<\/figure>\n

While She Sleeps – This Is The Six<\/b>
\n This is how you do a debut album. Pure brutality and riffs for days! Such a massive album which was on heavy rotation all of last year while we were writing the album.<\/p>\n

\"\"Times Of Grace – The Hymn Of A Broken Man<\/b>
\n What an incredible album this is. It has everything we look for in a metal album, all executed perfectly: huge choruses, bags of melody & massive riffs! Jesse’s vocals are second to none and the song writing is just perfect.<\/p>\n

\"\"Thrice – The Artist In The Ambulance<\/b>

\nAn all-time classic in our opinion. There isn’t one weak song on this album and it’s all about the songs. Some bands concentrate on being heavy or letting the riff steal the show but none of that matters if you don’t have the song. “Wall to wall bangers”<\/i> as the cool kids would say. If you haven’t heard it (why not?!) you should definitely check it out.<\/p>\n
