It\u2019s fortunate, though, that he stuck around long enough to record \u2018<em>Be Good<\/em>\u2019, the Minneapolis band\u2019s fifth album. It\u2019s a return to their classic punk sound after the acoustic, almost folk-punk of their 2016 effort \u2018<em>Won\u2019t Be Missed<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>No Love<\/em>\u2019 opens with chaotic, ramshackle distortion. One of the stronger tracks, it jolts the album into life, kickstarting a compelling sequence of music. \u2018<em>Tear Me Apart<\/em>\u2019 is a stunning piece of melodic hardcore that suits Young\u2019s vocals down to a tee, gravelly in nature yet versatile enough to intermingle with the melodic guitar.<\/p>\n<p>As a collection of tracks, it steamrollers ahead, mercilessly fast and ferocious \u2013 true to form for the band. In particular, \u2018<em>Let It All<\/em>\u2019 showcases <strong>Off With Their Heads<\/strong> at their best; two minutes of pummeling hardcore that refuses to let up. Kyle Manning is relentless on the drums here, not once breaking a sweat in a furious two minutes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Off With Their Heads - &quot;No Love&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0Ofv8y9YrDg?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>You Will Die<\/em>\u2019 has an enthralling angsty quality, all screams and riffs leading up to a desperate, frantic finish. It\u2019s an impassioned plea to \u201c<em>Make the best of what&#8217;s there today<\/em>\u201d, because \u201c<em>We die either way<\/em>\u201d. This sort of bittersweet sentiment is commonplace throughout \u2018<em>Be Good<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 \u201c<em>I know I deserve it all\/Yeah I lost you<\/em>\u201d Young sings on &#8216;<em>Locking Eyes&#8217;<\/em>, an uncharacteristically long track, and the penultimate song on the album.<\/p>\n<p>Admittedly, \u2018<em>Be Good<\/em>\u2019 does risk becoming a tad repetitive. But clocking in at 36 minutes, the band manage to keep it succinct enough for it to retain its effect. Is it the most original album you\u2019ll hear this year? No, but it\u2019s an assured release that builds on their previous material for a slice of captivating punk.
