\u2019Daylight Disease\u2019<\/i> is the first release from Sheffield six piece Elegies<\/b> since signing to Hassle Records<\/b>. Following their self titled EP two years ago, the band burst onto the Northern hardcore scene and have shared festival bills with huge acts such as Brand New. In recent years, Sheffield has produced some of the biggest metal bands in the country and there is no reason why Elegies<\/b> can\u2019t be the next to make that step.<\/figure>\n

\u2019Throne\u2019<\/i> gets the EP off to a flying start. Dual guitars provide melodic yet heavy riffs, backed by huge pounding drums. The verse has an almost Deftones feel, the way it drops out allowing the vocals to be the sole focal point before kicking back in makes the chorus sound absolutely massive. Elegies<\/b> make clever use of their dual vocals without ever sounding cliched.<\/p>\n

<\/figure>\n

Headache<\/i> is another four minutes of great post hardcore tinged metal, but doesn\u2019t quite get going like \u2019Throne\u2019<\/i> or final track \u2019Cobweb Eyes\u2019<\/i>. The last track is perhaps the strongest of the whole EP. Opening with a mesmerising reverb soaked guitar riff, the dual vocals of Tom Hoyland and Sam Gibson provide amazing soaring harmonies throughout. The final minute of the song is where it reaches its peak, an onslaught of guitar and drums provide a haunting backdrop for yet more dual vocals.<\/p>\n

\u2019Daylight Disease\u2019 is a solid EP that will see Elegies<\/b> take another leap forward in their career. These songs will sound huge live too, which will only bolster their position as one of the most exciting bands in the north of England right now. They go on tour later this summer, be sure to check them out.<\/p>\n
