For Brisbane duo <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong>\u2019 <em>\u2018Positive Rising: Part 1\u2019<\/em> is their turning point. Having become a trio with the addition of new member Lachlan Ewbank, the band want to prove they\u2019re more than just a party band.<\/p>\n<p>From the get-go, <em>\u2018Hi Everyone\u2019<\/em> sets the tone for <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong>\u2019 new direction. With an atmospheric drone guitar and layering of instruments, the tone is definitely more experimental compared to what <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong> fans may be used to. Despite the introduction and verse, the chorus brings back a more punk-y feel.<\/p>\n<p>Following on, the band stick to their background with tracks such as <em>\u2018Still No Change\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018IN-TO-IT\u2019<\/em>. Both tracks are mosh-worthy, punk club favourites. <em>\u2018IN-TO-IT\u2019<\/em> may have a vibe that fans are fond of, however the vocals\/lyrics in the verse sound clumsy. When Shane Parsons questions <em>\u201cWhat the hell is in my head? I keep feeling like I\u2019m dead, and I\u2019m into it\u201d<\/em> though it might be trying to sound delirious to be in-keeping with the song, it just sounds awkward.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"DZ Deathrays - IN-TO-IT (Official Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zxzfPbBgknk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As far as <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong>\u2019 newly developed sound, <em>\u2018Hypercolour\u2019<\/em> starts out like a Californian indie track. With clean strumming guitar, wavy vocals, a clear backbeat, the track is a lot more chilled out. It is evident that <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong> are using their new lineup to their advantage, in trying out new arrangements. For example, <em>\u2018Snakes\u2019<\/em> follows this summery indie vibe, but flows into the sound that is familiar from past tracks. <em>\u2018Positive Rising: Part 1\u2019<\/em> ends as it begins, with a more experimental outro in <em>\u2018Silver Lining\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Positive Rising: Part 1\u2019<\/em> shows <strong>DZ Deathrays<\/strong>\u2019 ability to change it up a bit. The band manages to add something different, while still keeping the sound that will please longtime supporters. It will be interesting to see what Part 2 holds.<\/p>\n<p>3\/5<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Positive Rising: Part 1&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>by\u00a0<strong>DZ Deathrays\u00a0<\/strong>is released on 30th August on\u00a0<strong>Alcopop!
