But <i>\u2018Hours\u2019<\/i> has remained a consistent fan favourite, so it comes as no surprise that they chose to play it front to back at the Islington Academy in April 2014. But was this another record that time should have left well alone?<\/figure>\n<p>The Bridgend quartet\u2019s second album and a milestone in the post-hardcore genre\u2019s development, you probably remember those emotions when you first held a copy of <i>\u2018Hours\u2019<\/i>. The trepidation, the anticipation, the awareness that nothing would be able to touch that album in your mental list of emo highlights. 10 years on, whether you still hold it in the same regard or not, hearing the track listing live from beginning to end is a feat of nostalgia and a ritual reopening of old wounds. <!-- more --><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><i>\u201cWho was it that said that great things come to great men? Well that fucker lied to us,\u201d<\/i> echoes the trademark philosophy of <i>\u2018All The Rage\u2019<\/i>, introducing a heartbreaking play-through while the crowd responds in beautiful unison to demonstrate the longevity of an iconic album. Missing the iconic dialtone of <i>\u2018Streetcar\u2019<\/i> and guitars struggling to keep up, however, the live atmosphere brings even more anguish to the lyric <i>\u201cI can\u2019t feel the same about you anymore\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The nostalgic energy of <i>\u2018Roses for the Dead\u2019<\/i> is spoiled by out of key backing vocals, which proves surprising given the track appears often on setlists. <i>\u2018Hospitality\u2019<\/i> has never been played to an audience before, and while it\u2019s performed with some anxiety, it somehow emerges more emotive and polished than on record, closing on a playful twist with <i>\u201cthese aren\u2019t the droids you\u2019re looking for\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The morose swan song of <i>\u2018Drive\u2019<\/i> perfectly complements the down-tone political condemnation of <i>\u2018History\u2019<\/i>. While regular setlist star <i>\u2018The End Of Nothing\u2019<\/i> proves more remorseless live, the haunting electrics of <i>\u2018Recovery\u2019<\/i> and the line <i>\u201cthis heart\u2019s not beating, it just doesn\u2019t feel the same\u201d<\/i> couldn\u2019t be more wrong. <i>\u2018Hours\u2019<\/i> still feels the same as it ever did, despite numerous line-up changes and the vast decade in between. <\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cThis is about same sex equality,\u201d<\/i> introduces <i>\u2018Alvarez\u2019<\/i>, with mic feedback and shaky vocals spoiling an otherwise haunting rendition that could reduce you to tears on any given Thursday. <i>\u2018Sonny\u2019<\/i>\u2019s haunting opening notes soon serve a devastating death knell on the replay of a timeless record that\u2019s survived the rise and fall of the halcyon emo era.<\/p>\n<p>However, just when you thought the curtain had closed, the live performance concludes on additional highlights from <b>FFAF<\/b>\u2019s recent setlist cycle.
