With thousands attending this weekend’s\u00a0Download Festival<\/strong>, this week’s #NewMusicFriday is a fairly subtle one. However, there is enough music that shouldn’t be ignored.<\/p>\n

For starters, there’s a new album from McFly<\/strong>. Yes, that McFly<\/strong>.\u00a0Their seventh album, ‘Power To Play’<\/em>, sees them throw off the shackles, and deliver an all-out rock record.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Scottish indie-punks\u00a0Gallus<\/strong> take listeners on a journey of self-loathing, self-medication, and self-love on \u2018We Don\u2019t Like the People We\u2019ve Become\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0Ultra Q\u00a0<\/strong>(led by Jakob Armstrong, the song of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong) drop ‘My Guardian Angel’<\/em>, which Kerrang! says<\/a> has “plenty of intriguing, original ideas and more than a decent sense of identity.”<\/em> There’s also\u00a0‘Social Lubrication,’ <\/em>the third outing from\u00a0Dream Wife\u00a0<\/strong>which sees them embrace riot-grrrl punk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the heavier side, Danish extreme metal quintet\u00a0The Arcane Order<\/strong> (ft members of M\u00f8l and Soilwork) deliver\u00a0‘Distortions From Cosmogony’<\/em>.\u00a0 While Sweden\u2019s Scar Symmetry<\/strong> add some progressive rock and melody to the death metal genre with\u00a0‘Singularity (Phase II \u2013 Xenotaph)’<\/em>.\u00a0If you’re looking for some industrial metal, then there’s the return of\u00a0Godflesh<\/strong> and their ninth album – ‘Purge’.<\/em> And finally, Glass Casket<\/strong> return with their first release since 2006.<\/p>\n
