Formed in late 2021,\u00a0The Throwaway Scene\u00a0<\/strong>have been honing their sound over the past few years, leading to the release of their debut EP – \u2018On Death & Dying\u2019.<\/em> Amongst its five tracks is\u00a0‘Bury Me’<\/em>, a soaring blast of emotional rock. With its towering chorus, which is reminiscent of ‘Three Cheers\u2026’<\/em> era My Chemical Romance, and pounding, energetic verses,\u00a0The Throwaway Scene\u00a0<\/strong>deliver an impactful number.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite possibly (by that, I most unsubtly mean definitely) my favourite track that we\u2019ve released so far, both in terms of general love for the song and how the narrative is presented,”<\/em> said vocalist Olly Hame. \u201cIt\u2019s 3 minutes of Ross being angsty and desperate on the soundtrack of a modern love song; moments of bliss, gripping suspense, sheer defiance, and stunning beauty. These moments are all slow dancing with the rest. Know you are loved. Know you are not alone.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

As for \u2018On Death & Dying\u2019<\/em>, it’s tied together by the theme of grief. It allows Hame, along with guitarist Tom Green-Morgan, bassist Sam Clark, and drummer Tom Ward, to deliver a cathartic set of songs that explore the various stages of grief. “It was an interesting deep-dive into how incredibly resilient and divisive our minds can be when pushed to breaking point,” Olly explains.<\/p>\n

Threaded by introspective thoughts of personal loss and one’s mortality, \u2018On Death & Dying\u2019<\/em>, is an admission that death and everything that surrounds it isn’t easy. For Hame, it’s an opportunity to reflect and no longer avoid the notion of loss and dying. “This (‘On Death & Dying\u2019) was a way of bringing it back to focus and not permitting myself ignore it any longer,”<\/em> The Throwaway Scene<\/strong> frontman commented.<\/p>\n

However, despite the emotionally heavy topic, songs such as\u00a0‘Bury Me’<\/em>,\u00a0‘Sometimes (I\u2019m Drowning in My Sleep)’<\/em>, and\u00a0‘Who Else Is in the Room’<\/em>\u00a0 thrive with dynamism and energy. In short, they bring colour to the lyrically monochrome manner that The Throwaway Scene<\/strong> provide.<\/p>\n

Having delivered a stellar EP, there’s no doubt there’s more to come from\u00a0The Throwaway Scene<\/strong>. In the past they have played alongside Static Dress, Lonely The Brave and Love is Noise, as well as appeared at Burn It Down and Throwfestands. We wouldn’t be surprised if they’ll be popping up a lot more in the future.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, they’ll be playing a few shows in the coming months.<\/p>\n
