Whether that&#8217;s through her time leading <strong>Against Me!<\/strong>, her public acknowledgement of transitioning gender, or to her solo work. Her third solo full-length,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Hole In My Head&#8217;<\/em>, is a candid display of\u00a0self-exploration.<\/p>\n<p>Front-loaded by its title track and spirited punk rumble, it&#8217;s clear Grace still has a fire in her belly.\u00a0<em>&#8216;I&#8217;m Not a Cop&#8217;<\/em> soon follows, embracing a rockabilly rhythm with punk-angst. Whereas\u00a0<em>&#8216;Birds Talk Too&#8217;<\/em> and hand-clapping-heavy <em>&#8216;Punk Rock in Basements&#8217; <\/em>highlight the album&#8217;s ability to produce raw, short and sharp songs that have all the fat fine cut off.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it is the acoustic folk punk moments that prove to be Grace&#8217;s true strength. The carefree country twang of\u00a0<em>&#8216;Tacos &amp; Toast&#8217;<\/em> details a forgettable birthday and putting the final nail in a former love (<em>&#8220;I think I\u2019ll get a line tattoo\u2019d through your name&#8221;<\/em>).\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/laura-jane-grace-dysphoria-hoodie\/\"><em>&#8216;Dysphoria Hoodie&#8217;<\/em><\/a> sees her find solace in a well-worn Adidas hoodie. <em>&#8216;Keeping Your Wheel<\/em> Straight&#8217; serves as a thank you to St. Louis for providing a place of comfort in the city she now calls home.\u00a0<em>&#8216;Cuffing Season&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>captures her need for fresh love;\u00a0<em>&#8220;Make me feeling something I\u2019ve never felt before&#8221;<\/em>. While\u00a0<em>&#8216;Give Up The Ghost&#8217;<\/em> wrestles with her purpose, questioning his position as a musician.<\/p>\n<p>By taking a diaristic approach,\u00a0<strong>Laura Jane Grace<\/strong> produces a set of intimate and honest songs that brilliantly highlight her vulnerability and resilience.
