Northlane<\/strong> have consistently proved their ability to weave in towering melodies with crushing heaviness. Throughout their career, they’ve interjected their metalcore sound with progressive elements. As they prepare to release the\u00a0‘Mirror\u2019s Edge\u2019<\/a>\u00a0<\/em> EP next month, they’ve teamed up with one of their main influences on new track – ‘Afterimage’<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n

It sees the Sydney outfit collaborate with\u00a0Karnivool<\/strong> vocalist Ian Kenny. Having previously toured with the fellow Aussie prog metal outfit a decade ago, having Kenny contribute vocals on\u00a0‘Afterimage’<\/em> made perfect sense.<\/p>\n

On the impact Karnivool<\/strong>‘s influence,\u00a0Northlane<\/strong> guitarist Jon Deiley said \u201cTouring with Karnivool changed my perspective on songwriting by showing me a solid groove is more interesting than some flashy technical bit. Writing a good groove means you can exploit it in different ways while still keeping it interesting over time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cKarnivool influenced Northlane by showing us that songwriting and nailing every transition live is more important than jumping around. We hopped on the Asymmetry tour years ago and were still riding the success of ‘Singularity’ when we discovered pretty quickly some fans just want to stand and enjoy you playing the music perfectly. I think that’s where our unhealthy hyper-critical evaluation of our performance came from!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On ‘Afterimage’<\/em>, Kenny’s vocals effortlessly complement Northlane<\/strong>‘s Marcus Bridge, providing a powerful display. As Deiley’s comments hinted, ‘Aftermath’<\/em> thrives with a strong groove. Furthermore, there’s still a compelling heaviness on show, adding to its pulsating energy. Although the brief melodic moments lend the track a temporary tranquil quality.<\/p>\n

‘Afterimage’<\/em> is the final track to be shared ahead of\u00a0‘Mirror’s Edge’<\/em>s release next month. It follows previous singles,\u00a0‘Miasma’<\/em><\/a> and the EDM-infused EP closer,\u00a0‘Dante’<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n
