When\u00a0<em>&#8216;Lies We Tell Ourselves&#8217;<\/em>, the latest single from\u00a0<strong>P.O.D.<\/strong>, arrived in my inbox last week, I expected another blast of hard rap-rock. However, when <em>&#8216;Lies We Tell Ourselves&#8217;<\/em> started to play on the #NewishMusic playlist, I had to make sure I was hearing the same band that gave us\u00a0<em>&#8216;Youth of the Nation&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em><em>&#8216;Alive&#8217; <\/em>and <em>&#8216;Boom&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Sonny Sandoval&#8217;s sincere words, the track is a punchy slice of hard rock with choppy guitars that absolutely thrives in its anthemic chorus. After 30 years together,\u00a0<strong>P.O.D.\u00a0<\/strong>are clearly capable of surprising us, and proving their doubters wrong.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;As hate is to love, death is to life, lies is to VERITAS (truth). This song resonates the struggle and hope which keeps us from truly believing that the &#8216;lies within ourselves&#8217; become a reality. Our struggle. Our truth,&#8221;<\/em> says <strong>P.O.D. <\/strong>guitarist Marcos Curiel. Whereas Sandoval states &#8220;<em>Everybody lies to themselves! Just don\u2019t believe it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"P.O.D. - &quot;LIES WE TELL OURSELVES&quot; (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3z-3EEdgDaU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With bassist Traa Daniels completing the current incarnation of\u00a0<strong>P.O.D.,<\/strong> the San Diego trio have been delivering their range of rap-rock, alt-metal, and reggae rock for over thirty years. <em>&#8216;Lies We Tell Ourselves&#8217;<\/em> is the latest offering from their upcoming eleventh album &#8211;\u00a0<em>&#8216;Veritas&#8217;<\/em>. Due for release on May 3rd, the record promises to see the trio &#8220;go back to basics&#8221;. This was demonstrated with previous singles <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VS01rhDpjyc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>&#8216;Drop&#8217;<\/em><\/a> and<em> &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ah80WZaJH54\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afraid To Die&#8217;<\/a><\/em>. Executed with urgency and fire, the former saw a vicious cameo from\u00a0<strong>Lamb of Go<\/strong>d singer Randy Blythe. Whereas Tatiana Shmayluk of\u00a0<strong>Jinjer<\/strong> lent her vocal talents on <em>&#8216;Afraid To Die&#8217;.\u00a0 <\/em>Additionally<em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AZP4EAO2QnA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;I Won&#8217;t Bow Down&#8217;<\/a><\/em> served as another blast of\u00a0<strong>P.O.D.<\/strong>&#8216;s heaviness.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This will most likely be one of my favourite P.O.D. records,&#8221;<\/em> says Daniels on <em>&#8216;Veritas&#8217;<\/em>.<em> &#8220;There are some songs on this record that are so different from one another, but still have that P.O.D.
