They followed it up with 2021&#8217;s <em>&#8216;The Collab Project\u2019<\/em> EP, which saw them work with the likes of Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens and Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. to share a platform for mental health support. This week sees the Auckland-based band unleash <em>&#8216;Secrets&#8217;<\/em> much-anticipated follow-up &#8211; <em>&#8216;The Lighthouse&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Never a band to do things half-cooked, <strong>Written By Wolves<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>deliver a bold, genre-blending concept record that picks up where its predecessor left off. Having ventured into the dark with intrusive thoughts and feelings last time out,\u00a0<em>&#8216;The Lighthouse&#8217;<\/em> sees the quartet crawl out from under, finding comfort in the process.<\/p>\n<p>With assistance from producer Gladius James (Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony),\u00a0<em>&#8216;The Lighthouse&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0 sees\u00a0<strong>Written By Wolves<\/strong> spread their creative wings to create a collection of impactful songs. Tracks such as <em>&#8216;Give &#8216;Em Hell&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Misery&#8217;<\/em> thrive in their lyrical determination and bold hard rock delivery. Fittingly,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Burn&#8217;<\/em> ignites with dense riffs and catchy chorus. The same can be said for <em>&#8216;Take Me Home&#8217;<\/em>, highlighting the quartet&#8217;s flair for favourable hooks. While its title track is emotionally crushing, drawing you in its powerful balladic tone. As a collection, <em>&#8216;The Lighthouse&#8217;<\/em> sees\u00a0<strong>Written By Wolves<\/strong> take you on a cinematic and energetic journey of rediscovery.<\/p>\n<p>While nearby Australia is often cited as one of alternative music&#8217;s hotspots, <strong>Written By Wolves\u00a0<\/strong>is part of a pack of New Zealand-based acts that are making waves at home and abroad. We asked\u00a0<strong>Written By Wolves<\/strong> vocalist Michael Murphy to pick out five essential bands (and songs) from his homeland that you need to hear.<\/p>\n<h2>Banks Arcade \u2013 Be Someone<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Banks Arcade - Be Someone [Official Music Video]\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nUZhbgKLGkY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>We just toured with these guys. They&#8217;re amazing lads, super hardworking and doing incredible things musically.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Their entire catalogue is insane but I chose this song because it was stuck in my head for weeks after the tour finished. The &#8220;hell froze when you walked in&#8221; section in this song is so good. I&#8217;m kinda jealous I didn\u2019t write it myself.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Crooked Royals \u2013 Ill Manor<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Crooked Royals - Ill Manor (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dWGlSbxm1RI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Crooked Royals<\/strong> are a band that we get the pleasure of playing with as often as possible! I love the dynamic of the two vocalists and the epic light and shade they bring. Once again check out their entire catalogue, it&#8217;s so good!<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Vana \u2013 BEG!<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Vana  - BEG! (Official Music Video)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hwLa4VYL0BI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Vana<\/strong> is relatively new but is absolutely blowing up right now, so it\u2019d be a good idea to jump on board right now before she takes over the world. We&#8217;re fortunate she&#8217;s an artist we have had the pleasure of playing with a lot recently.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Coridian \u2013 Redefine feat. Jessie Booth (Ekko Park)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Coridian - Redefine feat. Three brothers make up the band with an amazing little firecracker by the name of Dity in the front. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I chose this track as it\u2019s a two for one deal as it features Jessie Booth, who is also the guitarist of Ekko Park. They&#8217;re another amazing band full of beautiful, lovely people. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Everyone on this list are genuine, amazing human beings. It\u2019s not a hard and fast rule that you\u2019re not allowed to be a dick if you\u2019re in a NZ band but it helps!<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Capital Theatre \u2013 Taste The Flame<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Taste The Flame - Official Visualiser\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v8s3j2vUwn4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>I\u2019ve known these guys for a long time. Their vocalist, Adam (Stevenson), was in my previous band, 5Star Fallout. These guys are epic and we have joined forces to throw a double album release show on August 2nd.
