Three years ago, the enigmatic group played an evening slot on the Avalanche stage, but a lot has changed since then. 2023 album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Take Me Back to Eden&#8217;<\/em>, saw Vessel and company explore, playing sold-out arenas.<\/p>\n<p>Their Saturday night headline slot comes off the back of their chart-topping fourth album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Even in Arcadia&#8217;<\/em>. A critically polarising record, it maintains\u00a0<strong>Sleep Token<\/strong>&#8216;s genre-blending brand of alt-metal. Their music doesn\u2019t just hit, it envelops you. Among the emerging names heading to Donington this weekend is\u00a0<strong>House of Protection<\/strong>. Consisting of former Fever 333 duo, Stephen Harrison and Aric Improta, they are a fresh name with seasoned players.<\/p>\n<p>With two EPs under their belt, <em>&#8216;GALORE&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-house-of-protection-outrun-you-all\/\"><em>&#8216;Outrun You All,&#8217;<\/em><\/a> they have built a wealth of momentum over the past 12 months. It\u2019s a dynamic that blends fragility and fury in equal measure.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside acts such as\u00a0<strong>Split Chain<\/strong>, <strong>Graphic Nature<\/strong>, <strong>Harpy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Zetra<\/strong>, and <strong>Dead Pony<\/strong>, <strong>Lastelle<\/strong> proudly represent the depth and diversity of the UK\u2019s alternative scene.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where and When:\u00a0<\/strong>The Dogtooth Stage &#8211; Saturday &#8211; 11:45 \u2013 12:05<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Best of the Rest<\/h2>\n<p>As there is so much to choose from, we couldn&#8217;t do a\u00a0<strong>Download Festival XXII<\/strong> preview without throwing in some extra recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Friday offers up Aussie modern metalcore band\u00a0<strong>Northlane<\/strong>, longtime favourites <strong>Boston Manor<\/strong>, and melodic pop-punk\/hardcore <strong>Trophy Eyes<\/strong>. While\u00a0<strong>Rise Against<\/strong> will grace the main stage to preview their new album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Ricochet&#8217;<\/em>. Philadelphia alt-metallers\u00a0<strong>CKY<\/strong> will also be on the same stage. The likes of\u00a0<strong>Crossfaith<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Opeth<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>VOLA<\/strong> are some of the other names worth considering on the opening day.<\/p>\n<p>By the time you&#8217;re refreshed and ready to go,\u00a0Saturday&#8217;s main stage will be opened by <strong>Static Dress<\/strong>. Whereas the Avalanche stage will be home to\u00a0<strong>Dayseeker<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mallory Knox<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Twin Atlantic, Split Chain<\/strong>, and <strong>Venus Grrrls<\/strong>. Elsewhere,\u00a0<strong>Polaris<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Currents<\/strong> will be bringing the metalcore to the Opus stage. That&#8217;s also where you&#8217;ll find <strong>The Darkness<\/strong>, who are always entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>The final day of\u00a0<strong>Download<\/strong> gives us French metallers\u00a0<strong>Novelists<\/strong>, punk cover specialists\u00a0<strong>Me First and the Gimme Gimmes<\/strong>, metalcore titans\u00a0<strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong>, and pummeling deathcore\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">mob<strong> Lorna<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0Shore<\/strong>. Meanwhile, Sunday&#8217;s Apex (main stage) is stacked with riffs courtesy of <strong>Orbit Culture<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Bullet For My Valentine<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Bleed From Within<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jinjer<\/strong>,\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">and<strong> Meshuggah<\/strong><\/span>. And if you fancy a break from\u00a0<strong>KoRn<\/strong>, you can always head to the Dogtooth tent to see\u00a0<strong>SikTh<\/strong>.
