Last year, Seattle quintet Great Grandpa\u00a0<\/strong>returned with two new tracks,\u00a0‘Kid’<\/em> and ‘Doom’<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>Together both tracks marked their first slice of new music in five years. However, they’re only a taster of what will become\u00a0Great Grandpa<\/strong>‘s upcoming third album. It’s titled\u00a0‘Patience, Moonbeam’<\/em> and will be released through\u00a0Run For Cover Records<\/strong> on March 28th.<\/p>\n

In the years since 2019’s\u00a0‘Four of Arrows’<\/em>, the members of Great Grandpa\u00a0<\/strong>had grown apart and away from their Seattle base, with\u00a0Pat and Carrie Goodwin moving to Denmark and starting a family. However, having reconvened in 2023, ‘Patience, Moonbeam’ <\/em>promises to see the five-piece tap into their longtime friendships resulting in their most collaborative effort yet. The result of a “looser” approach hints at a band expanding their musical palette.<\/p>\n

For example, the aforementioned\u00a0‘Kid’<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>treads on rock opera traits with refined delicacy and rich execution.\u00a0‘Doom’<\/em> embraces odd time signatures alongside its brooding guitar work. While a third preview track,\u00a0‘Junior’<\/em>, released today, gently drifts with a compelling narrative of youthful boyhood playfulness (“light crimes with my buddies all night”<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Collectively, the three tracks imply a band reconnected and on the same wavelength. \u201cWe\u2019re all like individual swinging pendulums,<\/em>\u201d says guitarist\/vocalist Dylan Hanwright, \u201cand every now and then we come into sync for a few rotations. Sometimes it\u2019s two of us, sometimes three of us, often it\u2019s not any of us. But when it does come together, it\u2019s really beautiful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
