Indie-pop delights Orchards\u00a0<\/strong>have detailed their second album. It’s called\u00a0‘Bicker’<\/em> and will be released through longtime label home,\u00a0Big Scary Monsters<\/strong>, on March 28th.<\/p>\n

With a proven flair for infectious indie-pop hooks, the Brighton-based trio promise an album that is “edgier” and “vulnerable”. As previous singles,\u00a0‘I Feel Terrible’, ‘Sweetie Pie’<\/em> and ‘Mug Song’<\/em><\/a> showed, the band explore the onset of the\u00a0pandemic, break-ups, heartbreak, chronic illness, and depression across\u00a0‘Bicker’<\/em>s 10 tracks.<\/p>\n

Today, the penultimate album track, ‘Groan’<\/em>, has been released. It captures Orchards<\/strong>‘ skill of utilising math-rock time signatures and wrapping them around pastel-coloured melodies. It’s complemented by a dizzying 80s synths. It is an addictive taster of Bicker’<\/em>. Lyrically, it showcases vocalist Lucy Evers’ grittier songwriting through its\u00a0fist-clenched choruses.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was going through a really tough therapy session and my therapist said why do you feel the need to fix this,\u201d<\/em> explains Evers. \u201cI didn\u2019t have an answer for her. It\u2019s built into my wiring. I want to help, I want to fix it, and she said \u2018you can lead a horse to water but you can\u2019t make it drink\u2019 and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. The only person who can really fix something is you! But growing and healing isn\u2019t linear. You can be \u2018getting better\u2019 whatever that fucking means and still be scream crying in the bath.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
