At last, January is coming to an end! Considered by some to be one of the most disliked months of the year ends with a relative high thanks to\u00a0#NewMusicFriday<\/strong>. For starters, there are new albums from post-hardcore outfit L.S. Dunes\u00a0<\/strong>and rising UK artist\u00a0R\u00d8RY<\/strong>. You can read a snippet of our reviews on both of them below.<\/p>\n

Amongst today’s other releases, there is the return of metalcore band All That Remains<\/strong>. Their tenth album,\u00a0‘Antifragile’,\u00a0<\/em>sees a new look line-up and is their first album since the passing of founding guitarist Oli Herbert. Philadelphia melodic alt-rockers,\u00a0Grayscale<\/strong>, deliver their fourth album –\u00a0‘The Hart’<\/em>. Rooted in loss, it’s a soul-bearing record full of anthemic and reinvigorating moments.<\/p>\n

Closer to home, London alt\/industrial trio Tanye\u00a0<\/strong>release their debut album.\u00a0‘LOVE’<\/em> combines a narrative of desire, conflict and fear with a sonic soundscape of distorted drums, ethereal vocals, spiky guitars, and abrasive electronics. Tracks such as\u00a0‘Down,’<\/em> ‘Cause_Worthless,’<\/em> and ‘Scars’<\/em> utilise Matt Sutton’s airy voice and crushingly blend it with rugged, industrial tones.<\/p>\n

Fellow Londoners\u00a0TheCityIsOurs<\/strong> return with a barrage of pop-metal anthems on their third album, ‘Will You Still Love Me’<\/em>. The quartet neatly pull in elements of pop and metal in equal measure, resulting in a dynamic collection. In relative contrast, UK metallic hardcore outfit Grief Ritual<\/strong>‘s\u00a0‘Collapse’\u00a0<\/em>is a feral onslaught of socio-political disenfranchisement. Likewise, Great American Ghost<\/strong> unleashes a tyranny of fury with the politically-charged ‘Tragedy Of The Commons’.<\/em><\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Sweet Pill<\/strong> promises to show their tender side with an EP of reimagined songs – ‘Unraveled’.\u00a0<\/em>There’s a pair of albums from longtime Swedish rockers The<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Hellacopters<\/strong> and\u00a0The Night Flight Orchestra<\/strong>. On top of all that, there’s releases from\u00a0Circa Waves<\/strong>,\u00a0The DSM IV<\/strong>,\u00a0Jaye Jayle<\/strong>,\u00a0Head North<\/strong>, and\u00a0Northvale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

L.S. Dunes – Violet<\/h2>\n

Just over two years on from delivering their debut album, ‘Past Lives’<\/em>,\u00a0L.S. Dunes<\/strong> have reemerged with a sophomore record that builds on its predecessor. As well-documented, the personnel behind this so-called “supergroup” come from “scene” royalty; My Chemical Romance, Circa Survive, Thursday, and Coheed & Cambria. While their 2022 debut carried itself with the stench of being a project, it’s clear L.S. Dunes<\/strong> is here to stay.<\/p>\n

On the surface, ‘Violet’<\/em> is the sound of a band which has organically grown and is now comfortable playing with each other. This results in a tonally assured collection of songs, unshackled from whatever hefty expectations they had previously.<\/p>\n

Through an expansive pallet, songs such as\u00a0‘Like Magick’\u00a0<\/em>(with its stirring guitar solo) and\u00a0‘Holograms’<\/em> are spacious yet are far jarring. The post-hardcore grit remains intact. On ‘Fatal Deluxe’,<\/em> Anthony Green’s melodies swirl around Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance) and Travis Stever’s (Coheed & Cambria) sturdy guitars. All the while bassist Tim Payne and drummer Tucker Rule (both Thursday) accompany them with a colourful rhythm section. Later on,\u00a0‘You Deserve To Be Haunted’ <\/em>is ignited by riveting fret-play, Green’s distinct high-pitched screams, and low-end percussion. Whereas, the title track weaves itself between harsh catharist as Green sings of regret and pure optimism and forgiveness; “You’re gonna get what you deserve, You are the only star”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

R\u00d8RY – Restoration<\/h2>\n

There is an old saying that states “Life begins at 40”<\/em>, and for singer-songwriter\u00a0R\u00d8RY<\/strong><\/a> that’s considerably the case. While some may see her as a newcomer, the woman known to some as Roxanne Emery has been making music for over a decade. In that time, her discography was built upon a mix of acoustic pop and vocal contributions to various dance tracks. Yet in 2018, Emery shed her skin and embraced a new persona, R\u00d8RY<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However, this decision was more than a mere stylistic pivot towards accessible pop-rock. As her debut album,\u00a0‘Restoration’<\/em>, documents, Emery’s personal life was dominated by addiction, grief, toxic relationships, and mental health lows. Through a combination of sobriety and therapy, alongside support from her family, she’s emerged as one of the UK’s pop-rock’s promising “new” hopes. The arrival of ‘Restoration’<\/em> comes off the back of acclaimed festival slots and a healthy social media following.<\/p>\n
